    2013/1014 Season Highlights?

Being as the weather scuppered most of my plans, My 2nd Wye double @10-1 last weekend in glorious, unseasonal weather has to be my highlight......... That and a jolly good social weekend on The Wye near Hay in June. The fishing was very slow, but the weekend was what fishing is all about ...

Is Barbel fishing on the decline?

From someone who has fished a very small and clear tributary for a number of years, I have gone through good and boom times, but never have I seen the river so devoid of Barbel and in recent years even Chub !!! In the upper reaches, certain fish still thrive, but I have no doubt that, as a whole...

Suitable Reels, and trying to buy some!!

You won't go far wrong with some Shimano 5000GTE's if you can find them. The beauty being that you can get them serviced at Felindre and they'll come back as good as new. My Fox Stratos gave up after a couple of seasons of not particularly heavy use !!! Not impressed, although they were nice...

Tiny rivers, will barbel be found?

Nice post Mark !! As I've said before, do not underestimate how close to the near bank they will come and just how shallow they will feed !! Build their confidence and you will catch!!!

Tiny rivers, will barbel be found?

You have nothing to lose by giving it a go Mark !!! AND I'm guessing that these would be fairly uneducated fish......... If Barbel are there, then they are likely to be in the same swims as the Chub. I would try a LONG hair and only strike when the rod is about to go in !! That way you are more...

    Ground bait

1kg of mixed pellets (2-6mm with a few bigger ones thrown in), add boiling water to cover and leave overnight (sealed Bucket). Add another 1kg of Pellets and mix well, seal bucket and leave overnight........ Mix well again, sorted !!! Jam it into the feeder, works fine. Cheapest option I know......

    Cane and Pin

Hi John, regrettably I've lost touch with him and a few others since I left the BCC. I just needed to step away from 'The Scene' a little and then went thru' the mill a little with op's and life etc. I do keep in touch with a few of the lads so will enquire about him soon.

    Cane and Pin

John, Allan Marshall frowns upon anyone using over a 1oz lead let alone a coffee grinder ;o) I'm sure in the right hands a centrepin is a very effective tool and yes I can (just about) Wallis Cast, but I just find them hard work !! As for trotting, well with my fast retrieve Shimano Saharas I...

    Cane and Pin

It's all down to personal preference and what floats your boat as it were..........If you enjoy it then why not !! I have a MKIV Cane rod and coupled with a decent pin have used it fishing for Barbel on my local small river. I had a few fish on it and will say that the experience was...
