    We have a lot more tackle companies now than when we had 30 years ago, so no doubt with such a variety of equipment available surely they each may not have such high profits as they once did. And as for bait companies, the numbers of these must be frightening. You can't say gear isn't selling...

    But there again in might not. Perch and pike spawn earlier than other species, and they get forgotten during these debates on the moving of the closed season. On my local canals the perch were spawning the first week of the closed season

    The mystery of the lower Severn

    I don't fish the Lower often, but last year I never caught on there at all. The previous year I averaged 4 a session, with the average weight being about 4-5Ib. I don't fish far out, probably 1-2 rod lengths out depending on the levels, and where I can find a crease.
