With no apologies, when fishing I almost always hold the rod. As nearly all,of my rods are made of cane, the exception being a Hexagraph,I feel that the rods need no embellishment. I am sure that Edward Barder would concur.

I have only been a barbel angler for fifty years and have never felt the need to join any society.
The problem is that politics takes over from fishing and hierarchy lends a strong part.

There should be no bans on night fishing. I cannot count the numbers of nights that I have fished for barbel, especially on the Lower Thames and Kennet. I have never fished a whole night on the Medway as I usually caught before midnight.

What puzzles me is, if barbel are not dependent on anglers' baits, why do so many of the largest barbel have fat 'boillie bellies' ? Like the massive carp they have little...
