It's interesting as many have said that those with bearings run better? I have both myself.
I own a very old Adcock Stanton, that runs like a dream. I've also brought but not received a Okuma. It will be interesting to see the difference myself?
On another level, the Okuma reels seem very...
I noticed someone wrote about the problems trying to contact the company behind the Adcock Stanton centrepins.
I lost a part of mine recently, and tried endlessly to contact them. My reel is 25 years old, and an old friend. In my humble opinion, the best around. But I'm really annoyed the...
First a big thanks to Andy for getting back up on the forum.
I meet an old friend fishing the Trent last week, someone I've known for a lifetime, trust and respect. He told me that in his view the Trent is not half the barbel river it was 20 years ago. He said at one time you could take good...
If you have an out and out trotting rod, it pays to have an extra but ring fitted near the reel. This allows another finger to be used, near the others. Sounds odd but it does work.
Once you get confident you will find your thumb can palm the reel forward, and give you another few yards...
Just to let the kind folk that offered advise regarding a new big chub rod, I'm sorted.
I spoke to the people at Drennan and brought the 12' Matchpro with a line rating of 4-7lb. It arrived today (Banks and Burr) even though I only ordered it yesterday morning. I love next day free delivery...
I'm after an 10'6'' to 11' quiver rod, must be really light as I tend to hold my rods a lot.
Ideal for lines up to 4lb-6lb+ it's mostly for big chub rather than barbel, but they could come along?
I'm happy with a mass produced job.
I have a Free-Spirit small water 11' 1lb t/c but I find...
In the early 70s I did a lot of winter night fishing for chub and roach. All the better fish came after dark.
Sadly I think a lot of night fishing done for carp is lazy fishing. Not all, but just and excuse to camp rather than fish. In the summer your better off late morning and late evening...
Really hate painted/white tips. Much prefer to use isotope fitting and bright float tips in them for day time and isotopes for night work.
I find as a single bright item at the end of the rod, shows up rattles and knocks better as they isolate the tips better. JMO.
Very nice fish, congratulations.
Never had a seven, but plenty of fish over six. I'm hoping the Trent will turn one up for me. I'm looking to increase my hair length, as I'm sure many of the rod top knocks are chub while barbel fishing.
We did not have in-line feeders in the 80s did we...
Not mentioned but what about maggots on an in-line feeder?
Phil Smith uses a heavy but small feeder with a short 6'' fluorocarbon hook-link with 3 plastic maggots on a hair. Really works for him.
I'd imagine it would take Barbel and big Roach too?
As mentioned anyone that has fished for specimen fish for any time, really know just how important accurate weighing is.
When I was oh so much younger I belonged to several groups like the Chub Study Group and The Tench fisher's. Plus local specimen groups. Your fellow members would never let...
Hi Guy's.
I'm not looking to be 'holier than thou' but have a few thoughts I 'd like to share.
Since I started fishing for barbel on the Trent, I've come to realise these fish are under constant pressure from people like me. Many of the popular swims are in constant use, and clearly the...
