Naughty David - Hexagraphs are hardly beginner's tackle!
I have a 11' 6" 1 & 3/8lb TC Hex - wonderful rod with an amazing fighting curve.
So is my made to measure cane rod for a fraction of the Barder from a very nice man who makes them in Hull - I think equal of the Barder in every way.
When I want to use pouches on fixed spool I use the Chub Reel Wraps
- they modify to fit the reel size via the velco fastenings

For afternoon fishing I prefer Darjeeling,
and then move onto Earl Grey for after dark! NO milk.
If I were to fish mornings I might be tempted with an Orange Pekoe

Really fast spares...
Actually not looking for any new reels as I can still get what spares I need from Okuma. Chris, appreciate the suggestion but it would have to be single handle.
Just did not want to see you waste your money - even one of my local tackle shops suggested I look at other makes some years back.
I think your option is a good S/H Shimnao or one of the Okumas - I use the old style Epix Pro (iin 40, 50 and 60s), the newer ones are quite well priced...
The Sonik Carp Rods have a good reputation but unless someone has used this rod I suggest a waggle about and accept that one tip will feel "wrong"

This cutting down of tackle is all well and good but I drink a serious amoiunt of Tea when fishing and struggle with less than 2 litres per 8 hour fishing trip! At least the flasks weigh less on the way back!
