Hello Steve, I too can remember the Normark rods being far superior to anything on the market, I had a Normark marco medallion rod back in the day a lovely rod and one of only a few on the market that didnt have a "flat spot" the cheaper rods invariably had those flat spots in the blanks...

I once had a few lost fish due to drennan super specialists straightening, it had never happened before and it occurred from more than one packet, turned out to be a faulty batch, never happened since, so you can always get a rogue batch of any hook.
