My best catcher is still some many years old teme severn lamprey pellets and you can rest assured ill be catching barbel on my stock of elips for years to come. I just keep them in a box in the garage (shrugs shoulders).

My old Gardner net broke at the weekend, the screw sheared off. It's been well used for years but is there better out there? I use a wychwood folding pan net which is adequate on the Yorkshire rivers but I want something more robust and with bigger mesh for the Trent.

I use a 5000 xtea with mine - balances it fine imo.

10lb flouro far too weak imo. I wouldn't even use that straight through to the hook for barbel. I use 20lb flouro and an allbright knot to the braid. I've caught literally hundreds of barbel on it and I've never been broken by one. It's like tow rope. 20lb flouro is much heavier so it...

I don't fish the Trent for barbel much anymore, but i fish it for predators. Anecdotally, it seems most barbel anglers think the fishing is in steep decline, though the average size may unsurprisingly be bigger. As a record keeper, how do your results compare with previous seasons?
