Steve, I use mine on the Trent. As Ed has said it's a great rod for heavy work but if you haven't had hold of one, I suggest you do. The blank is not the slimmest and this can affect your feelings towards it, if that's what you are used to. I agree again with Ed that it's not your usual...
Paul, go to your favourite stretch of 'quiet' river...without your tackle and have a good walk (I spent six hours on mine yesterday). Prior to this I have only fished once since the close...the longest gap in my fishing in the last ten years, so I know exactly where you are coming from. It's...
Paul has raised an important issue here and we should be working to find a solution. Getting fobbed off by the EA or any other body is usually because the person reporting it has little or no evidence to back up their concerns. I know this isn't relevant to all rivers, but for those that are...

Thanks for the 'likes,' chaps. If we could only get your average angler to do the first 'R' and rest the fish immediately it has been netted, instead of lifting it straight out of the water, I believe it could make a significant difference to survival rates. One day.... perhaps.
This requires the education of the masses. It had me thinking and I've come up with the 4R's for anglers who actually catch barbel:
Rest (in the net in the water immediately)
Record (by simple estimation, weighing or photographing and if doing the latter two, rest it in-between as well)...
