To find solutions we need politicians and leaders who are forward-thinking. Currently, in the UK, that stands at four years....i.e. the next general election. But seriously, those in power have chosen not to take the necessary action because it would lead to civil unrest across many industrial...
Surely a belt is an absolute must on chest waders for both river and sea anglers for safety reasons? I suppose the VSS ones are mostly seen in photos of carpers in the shallow margins of gravel pits, caressing their prize fish.
This might be of use for those of you fishing clear rivers and wanting to film/photograph fish:

The governments know the likely outcomes and the upheavals that will come with it and no doubt will have been 'gaming' the possibilities on supercomputers. As climate zones shift and arable land becomes arid (and vice versa), countries with the greatest ranges of longitude may be able to cope...
Crampons: as well as the above advice, you'll need some gloves when pulling them back into place and cleaning them whilst on the river. It's a dirty job and they do have a tendency to slip, especially on steep ground.
Anthony, whilst you may only be needing the alarms for barbel and tench at the moment, what of your future fishing? Delkims are a sound investment and whilst there may be improvements and new models in the future, they certainly have an excellent reputation.
FYI...and the reason as to why it's almost impossible to eradicate:
A single flower head may have over 5,000 seeds and a plant may produce 50,000 to 80,000 seeds. Seeds are shed from late August to mid-October. Seeds can remain viable in soil for 15 years.😱
A bit late for you Michael, but for anyone else thinking about it here's my opinion. Especially if you plan to do any winter wading, I'd go up two sizes to allow for a good thermal sock inside the neoprene sock.
Just banging the drum (again) about the dangers associated with this non-native invasive species. It appears to be a bumper year here in Yorkshire, so please be careful. The EA have treated some of it but, possibly because of a long period of low rainfall, there appears to have been some...
c.70 miles to the Trent for me. It's not the distance that's the killer, it's the motorway closures. The A1(M) is dire at the best of times but it gets worse at others. I once had an A1 northbound closure which diverted us via the M18 to Sheffield. Imagine my disbelief on finding the M1 closed...
A couple of questions for those fishing two rods, particularly on small to medium sized rivers
1. How many bites do you miss because either your attention is divided or you are caught out when baiting a hook/casting out/unhooking a fish?
2. How would you land both fish in a double hook-up...
On a different note, I was almost fifty before I had the opportunity to fish for barbel. Think of the all the years I lost in comparison to your exploits, Paul.
This is on the off-chance that anyone is in a position to help. The model I have is prone to water pooling on the flat extension. Nash, having had numerous complaints, retro-fitted the model with a straight tensioning bar. However, the updated camou version has a newer styled bar that raises the...
