    The next barbel river record

l know it sounds stupid, but a record is only a record if it is claimed as such and I really cannot believe that the official national record has not been broken at least once given the volume of Autumn caught high teens in the last decade.

    Best of the cheap pins

Of the cheap pins that I have, the best two are the black Marco Cortesi and what appears a black and silver Okuma copy, name of which I cannot remember and it's not stamped on the reel either! Both were about £40. I think the Cortesi is still available but the Okumaesque I have not seen...

    Hook pull / bumped fish

I would think that any fishing with the point exposed and a light bait increase your chance of foul hooking. Just an idea, as I am no barbel float fishing expert but would a soft heavy paste fished with the hook buried reduce the chance of foul hooking??

    What a prat

I forgot my landing net a couple of weeks ago on a quick evening session. I had left it out the back drying from a previous session. As I was only there for about an hour and a half, I didn't want to go back as that would leave me with an hours fishing at best. So I sat on the chair and watched...

    Supposed Ray Walton claim??

That's a bit harsh! 14,000 plus views from 2 threads suggests otherwise!

Avon 32lb Scales in Dark Blue

Hi, I picked a set of 32lb Avons up the other week out of curiosity, more than a need to have another set. The case is dark blue in colour which I thought unusual, so much that I can't find a pic on web. Anyone know the history of my mysterious dark blue Avons? Thanks, Jules

    playing fish without clutch

the downside with clutches of course is line twist which is why during my 20 odd years of carp fishing I always back wound. I guess that's also the reason that many did this too and not just because the clutches, 55 excepted, were crap?

    playing fish without clutch

All a bit subjective to the type of fishing you are doing I reckon. If when I spent a whole season barbel fishing, I had used back wind, I would have suffered breakages or snagged fish. This was because I was fishing a small weedy river for big fish and needed to exert maximum pressure that my...

    Skretting Pellet Sale

TBH Skretting coarse pellets have always been cheap if you buy a sack. Around £27 for 25kg at the moment. Never thought I would see the day when pellets were significantly cheaper than hemp though!

    A hypothetical question…

That's a very interesting question and one I have pondered many times too. I know of a tributary like you have described which really does not get fished from year to year. It's very overgrown in places in the summer, so much so that you can't see any water in some stretches. I know it holds...

    Butt length below reel

Hi Anthony, im not a rod builder, more a destroyer, and i have not read the other thread that you mention. I do know that a simple way of measuring a carp rod butt was to put the end of the blank in your sweaty armpit and with the same straight arm, hold the rod, essentially marking where the...

    Small Pellets

That's a relief. I thought the OP had a colon problem or suchlike!

The big fish off episode two.

I watched this again yesterday. Forgive if I am wrong but were they not catching some strange fish with 4 whiskers?... Again, I enjoyed it. It's bringing Angling to life.

    Fox BJ-5 Centrepin

Hi Chris, I bought mine for the same reasons as yourself. I didn't bother sending it back in the end and instead have relied on it bedding in! The bearings were grumbly on mine too. I have taken it out twice and bagged 11 chub in about an hours use using a 2 swan loafer which of course it gives...

The big fish off episode two.

I watched most of the second episode and although I have not been to Spain fishing, I think it caught the atmosphere quite well even if it didn't catch much in the way of fish. Macey and Hamidi made it entertaining with some fair banter. The program isn't about rigs and baits, it's about a group...

    goodbye leslies of Luton.

I found the customer service second to none at Leslie's. No one else could be that bad! I think the early days of mail order kept them afloat for far too long. Many a smaller, more honest shop has gone to the wall in my local area. I once had a choice of 8, now 2. I'm lucky in that I can walk...
