So what you gonna do? Sit at your keyboard and ask a load of people you probably don't know??
It is a landing net, he wants a fold up one. There are probably about 3 types available. :)
Barbless hooks are trouble if you are after speciman fish of any species. For bite fishing they are ok providing the fish do not need to be played hard. Barbel have mouths tougher than a Yorkshireman's wallet so are not as prone to tearing, especially when the majority are hooked in the lips...
In the mid naughties i felt a tinge of sadness when the closed season was lifted from still waters. The old magical 16th......blah blah. I soon got over this as spring carp have voracious appetites and everyone else was fishing. I would be outraged though if the running water closed season was...
Diawa sensor during last summer/autumn for me. Tough as a pub cooked steak, stronger than an unwrapped belachan block and cheaper than a Rover. The 12lb actually breaks at 17lb, 0.33mm. Tried some riverge reel soft in 10lb and appears OK but im not yet sure it was worth the outlay. It was about...

These are not...
Something along the lines of a bigger Shimano baitrunner (10000 etc) is what i use as it gives fantastic cranking power, has a good rear clutch and the baitrunner is reliable in high water conditions. I can only recommend Shimano reels though as for the past couple of decades have used no other!
Hi Robert,
I have 3 of these that are well over 20 years old and one of them i use during highish water conditions and i have taken barbel to 15+ with it. IMO these rods are iconic, from the advert that promoted them, ''two tonne armalite...'', to the fact that they are still tougher than any...
The first thing i would have done (and indeed do when i come across this), is to be polite and state to them that no fishing is permitted on the rivers during this time and that stillwaters are open all year round. By the response recieved you can gauge what type of person they are and adopt...
''Are barbel the new carp?''
Only if you want them to be..............:)
10% will always catch 90%, whatever the target species. As said earlier, good carpers will undoubtedly make good barbel anglers.:)
We only have media whores to blame for whatever increase there is in...
Barbel Champs......................:(
These last nine months i have been addicted to fishing a stretch of river almost solely for barbel with the occasional foray after roach or chops, sorry, chub.
I have never, in well over thirty years of angling in various guises after various species...
