Well the AGM lasted for just over 4 hours last night with the submissions from current members (as expected) taking up most of the meeting. 51 members from 200 showed on the night.
All 4 motions were discussed and with a strong specimen angler presence the room got slightly heated on a couple...
On the sweet bait thing, A guy i know well took 5 or 6 barbs including two 11's from the Derwent in the last month of winter on................tutti fruiti boilies!!
they out fished worm and pellet paste on the other rod, intresting me thinks?
Steve, who called you stupid? i didn't think name calling was allowed in the new world?
As you've pointed out above tho, you made your mind up 15 years ago about braid and thats it for you.
Maybe your views are a bit outdated then don't you think? in the face of all the posters above that...
Just came across this article on exactly the same subject may help some of you guys with outstanding braid issue's (sorry Andy F, it's from another forum)
Some clubs are banning braided lines, including braided hooklengths - Kryston boss Dave Chilton puts the record straight
About 18...
Thanks Guys, all views are welcomed as that is what i wanted, your experience.
I'm sure now that if braid was a major issue in barbel welfair there would be noticable damage on the fish we catch each year across most rivers due to amount of anglers using the stuff.Surely the bigger fish would...
For anyone bothered enough to read the background of braided mainlines, a great write up here from chris woodrow using power pro as a benchmark for carp fishing

Bigs not really the word Ian. Hardcore old skool anglers mostly late 50's upto 70's. The same guy wins it ever time sort of club
They are an old club tho 121 years on the water with a hardcore of members (15 or so) that only fish our stretch every other week thru the season. Due to the...
i can't ask the club at the minute which is why i started the thread to try and gauge the possible reasons for banning before the vote at the AGM.
Thing is, the club seems to have a "us and them" attitude towards the modern Barbel anglers approach. Other things on the list this year are also...
On the upper parts of the river certain pegs and swims are only 10 ft wide and 3/4 ft deep so fish rolling up the line as you put it just doesn't happen. I can see it on wider rivers and when still water fishing at distance but over the last 4 years of using it across rivers like the Trent...
One of the club books i've held for a couple of seasons now are trying, this year, so i'm told, to ban the use of braid on the river, could anyone suggest possible reasons for this?
Andy, i often have a nibble whislt baiting the hook, is that wrong? sounds wrong but taste's good!
Black pepper for me everytime, tried the garlic a few times but a switch to the peppered version scored with the fish, strange but true......never really had much sucess with garlic flavours...
I can understand using them for bolt and brace's approach but Dave is right i think.... weight of the lead / feeder and whether you are using a running, semi or fixed leads would have an impact as well as slackening off the bait runner (if your using one that is........)
i'd pay less for a...
