It's a good enough stretch of river, but like anywhere else catching is not guaranteed. I'm not sure I'd drive that far to fish it . Certainly not with fuel prices as they are and the way my Bongo drinks petrol!
Largely because it's a cheap way to buy a large quantity of mixed particles. You answer most of your query yourself, multi size and colour etc.
Lots of very successful baits weren't designed for fish consumption, spam for one
I'm sure your right about maize and hemp mix being just as...
I hope so cos I bought a sack of it for that! Used it successfully for carp- I usually soak it for a couple of days in water-it takes in quite a lot. Then I microwave it in batches of two pints at a time for ten minutes. After it cools I bag it and vacuum seal it before freezing.
A1 Pits as others have said. However the bailiff may charge you extra because you are in a campervan. He was going to charge me an extra tenner a night a couple of years ago when I was there in my Mazda Bongo, (Slightly smaller than a vw) but changed his mind. People driving long wheelbase hitop...
I was a bit like that a few years ago. I would have the car packed the night before and still find a reason not to go. Being semi retired only made it worse, as I would tell myself there was plenty of days off to go fishing.
Thankfully that seems to be behind me now- hope anyone else who has...
They are connected as you recommend Richard but I still found them hard work, even on 2 3/4lb daiwa powermesh rods. They no longer have the end caps are are now ground bait feeders.
The same ebay sellers lists the same feeders at up to 8 ozs. I can only imagine what deep joy they must be to use!
I find the main problem with large heavy feeders with a flat face is...reeling the buggers in again. I used some 3 oz models that I bought off ebay this year on the Trent. My idea was to recast regularly to keep a steady feed of maggots going in but it was such a pain winding in against the flow...
Surely the drennan specialist would be better with the flat, parallel spars being on the deck, with pegging points. It would be far more stable, similar to daiwa flatback brollies.
The Lewtham Leeds is quite a nice reel, in the 4.5" size. The best version, I think, is with a ratchet clicker rather than a friction brake. They can sometimes be got for well under fifty quid on ebay, although there are lots of sellers asking for more than that!
There is also a rare sidecast...
I remember a couple of years ago a Polish angler being most irate after being told he could not use his own drogue- he had bought it from the lodge just ten minutes earlier and would have appreciated being told the rule before he paid his money! I know the rule is not printed on the tickets, and...
