As mentioned a big bunch of worms can be very effective….a nice steady flow of fast walking pace is good but don’t ignore faster water/main flow if it’s smooth and not boiling, barbel are built for fast water! They might not stay there for long periods but it’s worth trundling a bait through...
Ah see what you mean…..If trying Horlicks only the full sugar version works and only just dampen the bait. I used it last season with some small pellet balls made with a Nash ball maker so I catapult them further.
Other than that just a little bit of river water to make right consistency should...
Not sure what you mean by “squeeze ready” Alec but I often mix groundbait with eggs to create a paste to wrap boilies, or on its own, when fishing for tench ….dynamite red robin, makes a great paste with egg. Just break egg into a bowl with a little Robin red glug then add groundbait a little at...
I think there’s a lot more involved including behaviours of local barbel populations, types of river substrate, depth, leak off from drains/fields etc..that we will likely never know without a properly designed scientific experiment. I’ve always favoured slowly rising levels following a warmer...
I agree, and it’s just 30mins of lighthearted fun with an angling theme and some banter….pretty much what it’s like when you go fishing with mates, but with two comedy greats.
My wife and daughters find it boring so vacate the room when it’s on, so IMO long let it last for the laughs and also...
Great confidence booster that isn’t it.
Another advantage of cooking the ‘sausages’ and taking those to the bank is you can break off just the right amount to stick on the hair ….basically if you pre-tie rigs you don’t have to worry about tying your hair to suit the size of bait you’ve bought in...
The Exocet had served me well and 23Ib (0.40) is tough stuff and still supple. I don’t want to use braid for the simple reason of then incorporating a mono leader and more knots and IMO more weak points to possibly fail.
Might try hydrotuff or GR60
about to respool my reels I use for floodwater fishing and have used fox Exocet 23Ib last few years but this seems to be out of stock everywhere, or postage is too much for my liking…so wondering what do others recommend?
Got quite a few and love them….i remember at one time they had a specialist barbel section with its own counter and would often have one if the ‘names’ in situ and great range of tackle, this was height if the Ouse phenomenon , just a shame they were a bunch of miserable sods who owned the shop!
I remember when these were released, pretty sure they did them also in green and gold. Quite pricey at the time too….you used to be able to find the old Leslie’s catalogues online, can’t remember the name of the site where people upload old magazines and catalogues, others may know
Hi Lee, I know someone who floatfishes this section with success….typically smaller stamp of fish but good sport. The favoured peg is the one just up from the weir car park next to the sluice/outlet….must be about peg 10?? But can’t remember, and fishing the inside line
Shame, had some good service over the years from them…but unfortunately a sign of the times, fewer people are spending their money on leisure activities, luxuries etc. you only have to look at the classifieds on this forum to see the market isn’t the same as 24 months ago…..been done incredible...
