The weather is due to change after tomorrow, lots of rain followed by low temp's so I thought i'd pop out and have a couple of hours trotting. I went back down towards the tidal area again, so I could fish from the bank rather than freezin me goolies off stood in the river.
Anyhow, I caught...
I very much enjoyed using the float Richard, they are a credit to your skills bud !
Yea, the chub was a decent sized one, it looks deformed in the pic lol, it'wasn't though, it was just in a funny position 😉.
I was very kindly sent some floats by Richard Isaacs to try out.
First impressions of the floats when they arrived was how well Richard had finnished them off, and how robust they felt, no flimsy bit of alloy stem on these floats!... Richard had used a substantial alloy stem on these.
The sight...
Maybe pike?
I've had pike on legered cheese past in years past.
Personally I can't see it being chub. I know they have pharyngeal teeth but after pushing my finger in their throats they felt soft to me.
The places I fish haven't got a crayfish problem, but I have heard people who fish waters where crayfish are present often have their bait snipped off. It does sound very feasible if there are crayfish present.
Yes Alan, its one of the drennan titanium trotter floats.
The problem I had with the drennan float yesterday was if the bait tripped bottom it would just go straight under, so there was nothing inbetween to allow you to read what was going on which meant I had to strike more than usual.
I...
I fished one of the tidal areas of the river today. The temps were up which is why I made the effort to go, but so was the river making it more alkward to wade. Anyhow, first fish was a small chub of about a pound, followed by a small barbel, then another few small chub of the pound size...
Very interesting post there Richard, looks likely to be a successful project....well done you!
I reckon that weight loss will make the rod feel, much better!!
A few m8s of mine swapped their alloy framed mtb's for top quality, super stiff, non flex carbon framed bikes, they swapped them back after several of them shattered on impact landing after doing a big jump!
They also had the carbon handlebars just crack off also.
Personally I would suggest you look at the second hand okumas, the sheffield and aventa pro are fantastic reels and you'll prolly loose nothing if you sell then on.
For your fourth reel you might consider an okuma, they are fantastic reels.
I like the sheffield, aventa pros, raw mkIIs and the Martin Bowler.
The bowler pin is very lightweight and rotates with the very slowest of flows, but then again they all do 😉👍.
Thanks for that Tim 🙂, I got a new phone a few weeks back and it seems to take decent pic's. I think it does alterations to them for you in an instant but I prefer unaltered pic's.
Yes, the specialist is a belter, as is the triton, you made a couple of excellent choices there bud 👍.
I had a a much nicer mkII model and sold it for 1600 a few years back.
I think the Bistern is the most sought after of the witcher reels and may go for near double the price of the one in Alans link.
Personally, i'm not impressed with witcher reels, hence me selling mine.....i'd much prefer a...
After todays experience I don't think i'm ever gonna go trotting/wading in air temps of 6 degrees which were made to feel much colder by a vicious downstream northerly wind.
Anyhow, I was daft enough to stand bollock deep in the cold water winding in cub from 12.20pm till 2.20pm this afternoon...
