I use a short length of tubing that has the two beads with a swivel ( large loop between beads) hooklink to hook tied to swivel small loop.
Mainline through the tubing, pushed to lead clip at end. Safe as well.
Cost about £1.20.

On Trent, Thames, Wye Lower Severn Kennet.etc.
If my fishing was mainly on Tidal Trent , I would maybe go up in tc otherwise I would continue to drop it into the inside line during floods.

I've actually not had any problem using 2lb Torrix on the Wye or LS but generally will be fishing near side.
And as you say wouldn't go far side with more than a 2 1/2oz filled feeder.

As I'm going to have to do a fair bit more lake fishing I'm looking at rods that will be ok for decent tench, but will handle 20lb plus carp if needed. Also may use for lower Severn Zander fishing, popping out 3 oz leads with small roach or bleak.
