Well I picked one up. By far the best quiver/ light holdall I've had and I haven't even had it on the bank yet. Only thing I don't like is the carry handle seems strangely placed for the load distribution, perhaps I need to put a brolly in it or something. Off to give it a try and hopefully...
Morning all
Had this rod built last year and having used chimeras for a good while I just fancy a change. It’s been used a handful of times but is in as new condition.
8 rings plus tip, Fuji sics. 20mm butt ring through to 8mm tip.
Shrink tube handle and dpns reel seat, little hook keeper...
Thank you David. Perhaps I should consider the 1.75 as well. I haven’t got any intention of using it mid river on wide bits of the Wye, I’m long bored of lobbing heavy leads or feeders about. Although would definately change my tune for the chance of an outsize fish. Generally if on those rivers...
It's a lot cheaper which is attractive. I've had a couple of Free Spirits (not for barbel fishing) and haven't massively liked either of them, its put me off a bit really but I'm sure there must be rods in the range I would like.
How would you describe the Barbel Seeker?
Hi Richard, acknowledge it is a bit of a half baked comparison. In absence of another one though that and gut instinct is what I currently have to go off, and previously read descriptions of the 1.25lb blank. Other people’s descriptions are also only so useful, as I’ve found out in the past...
Morning
I prefer an 11ft rod when fishing close in and/ or using a pin. I know people will say a ft doesn’t make any difference but I think it’s a nicer experience playing fish and handling the rod.
In absence of an 11ft chimera 2 I am being drawn to the dark side. I’ve never used a Torrix...
Hi Paul, thank you for the detailed feedback. I have to admit I wasn’t comparing like for like blanks. I had it next to my 11ft 1.75lb chimera which appears to me to be identical in thickness to the 1.25lb. It’s not just a foot shorter version of a chimera 2.
I’ve got 8 rings plus tip on the...
How come the different line on the centrepin Neil?
Kevin, I’ve had 12lb gr60 and hydrotuff break on the Wye when I’m sure there’s been no pre-existing damage (pre casting out anyway). I’m pretty diligent with it but think sometimes it’s just one of those things.
That's very useful, cheers Richard.
The balance and the sloppy feeling in the tip is what doesn't feel quite right. Putting it side by side with a lighter rung chimera it feels quite noticeable.
I have just tried it with a comparatively heavy centrepin, instead of a lightweight fixed spool...
The eyes are a bit big and are k series or something similar that has a lot of metal work. It seems like they’re affecting the responsiveness and it feels a bit unwieldy. If you saw it im pretty sure you’d think, ‘what are those eyes doing on there’.
I had such an unjoyable experience with vortex airs on a carp rod. The liner coating was wearing off after a few uses. Are minimas going to be a different kettle of fish?
