Avon Roach Project turn their attention to barbel

No Darren, and neither is throwing thousands of juvenile fish into stretches of river for replenishment. Admittedly I do not fish for roach but I walk many miles of the Hampshire Avon with Polaroids searching for barbel. On the waters I frequent above and below Ringwood I have yet to see any...

    Chicken Poo

Chicken waste has been used for many years to produce electricity. There are more of these plants cropping up all over the country. I've worked in energy from waste for 29 years and its far more efficient and cleaner to use such fuel as opposed to fossil fuels...

Not a problem on the Royalty as a toilet is provided :D

    Collingham aa

Richard, I have worked in waste management since 1993 and am well aware of what can be done. I have always taken a bucket myself. It really is just a few idiots that you will get anywhere. The average cost of hiring 2 standard portaloos is £100 for a minimum 2 week period. It would hardly break...

    Collingham aa

That sort of behavior Jon and typical angler crops up on every club or day ticket stretch in the country. Personally, if I need to have a crap in the daytime then I need to go..... I don't hang onto it until it gets dark, so I don't see how things will improve much. I have fished this stretch...

    Boilies

Hi Ian. I have used the sticky baits krill in the past with instant success. Garlic, is in my opinion the best additive in any barbel bait. I have used essential garlic oil in my baits for probably over 15 years now..... Not a direct yes to your question however ;)

    Collingham Trent !

It is a well recognized fish that comes off the TT, often at Collingham. My mate had it at 16.4 last season but has been out much heavier at the back end, sometimes at Sutton. Well done Paul.

    Collingham Trent !

Sleep in the daytime if its barbel you want. Get the rods out in the evening from 6pm. I have tried scaling down but unless you are in 1 or 1a you will struggle.

    Canon powershot g6

Many years ago I bought my G6 brand new. I've never replaced it and all the G range that superseded it didn't have the infrared remote & flip screen. How many pixels can the human eye appreciate? 7.1 million is more than enough in my opinion. A brilliant camera!

    Barbel weight drop?

If it takes 20 minutes for your barbel to recover then perhaps you should consider if you're using adequate tackle. My local club, Ringwood and district have imposed a maximum of 15 minutes retention time. Having said that common sense prevails and should a barbel require longer in warm...

    Barbel weight drop?

A few ounces maybe but I wouldn't have thought that much. Personally I wouldn't retain a fish for 5 minutes let alone 25 minutes even if it was a British record. No criticism, each to their own ;)

    Pellets

Well some may say that I am biased as I am tied in with Hinders but I certainly wouldn't plug a bait that was inferior. I have used Hinders elips old and new for probably 25 years and have seen absolutely no change in their effectiveness from elips shape to cylindrical. I am privileged to live...

Unfortunately Stephen, the chub just hang themselves too

    In line or Running Lead?

Not quite Rob but I know where you're coming from. I always fix a float stop above my lead to make it semi fixed to aid hooking. If I'm fishing for cagey fish in really clear water an in line pear lead is a must with a short tail. You haven't got that 'flex' as you have with a normal...

    In line or Running Lead?

Haha.... Keith, I'm not sure what the evening plans are for the Saturday, hopefully a pub in Ross. The premier Inn is a good option and is only £38 for a twin room atm I am waiting on some guidance from Graham.

    In line or Running Lead?

That's kind of you Keith but this pro is struggling on the barbel front but like most normal guys has to balance the fishing with a 40+ hour week job  I have only spotted one barbel that was ravenous to feed whilst out walking before a night shift. On my return 4 days later she was...

    In line or Running Lead?

I think you will find that some of the 'pros' that you refer to and that I know fish every day are still fishless after more than 2 weeks of the season gone. When these 'pros' find some willing fish they will pound them until they have caught them several times then become 'pros' The Avon has...
