I suppose it depends on what one deems to be appropriately packed. If a thick cardboard tube got crushed, the carrier would claim that was insufficient even though you and I both know that it’s fine.
Personally I think it’s criminal. The fact you can send heavier parcels for substantially less money is utterly bonkers. I would really like to know what it is about a long parcel that incurs such stupid fees.

Right, thanks for all the suggestions and comments. I’ve done my homework and ordered a Korum S23 Compact for £70. Looks to be perfect for any terrain and only weighs 3.5kg. I’m 5’10” and 12 stone so it won’t be under much pressure 😄

For me a Kelly kettle is the kind of thing that sounds brilliant but would probably end up being a pain in the (my) ‘Arris. £100 is a weird amount. It could easily be plenty or not enough. A few bits and bobs and that’s your money gone. Or it’s a new reel or half a new rod...
I’ve got a Trudex Mk1 that’s a nice user, albeit with a bit of a wobble. I’ve used it to roll meat with and it’s alright. It’s a narrow drum 4” reel. You can have it for £40 posted if you want.
