    Barbel Decline Theories

So thirty years ago when you had to run for swims at first light on Upper Benyons, when you've watched the coach load walking upstream at Spur Road bridge at Throop overtake the coach load at School Bridge walking downstream, when the rivers had far more anglers, when night fishing rivers wasn't...

    River Loddon news

I'm confused now. I thought the new Twyford water was the east bank (footpath side). Ray are you saying the other bank is free too?

    Keith Speer Funeral

And knowing Keith's non-pc sense of humour, he would giggle if someone turned up in neoprene chesties two sizes too small.

    Keith Speer

Mike W and I were only talking about ringing Keith last night. I'm numb with shock. We are all getting older, and sometimes we go fishing on our own. There for the grace of God..... Tight lines on that great river in the sky buddy.

    Clutch or backwind?

When float fishing - front drag on my Diawa's Fishing for lumps - rear drag on my Shimmy's Silvers on the float - backwind on the 507's Thumb on the centrepin. Puller-bung on the pole. :) Whilst on the subject of 'drag', I'd just like to make it clear...unless it causes public...

Merry Christmas to you, Andy, Claire and your family. And to the BFW team. Peace and goodwill to fellow forum members.

    Merry Christmas, or chin up.

You never know what's round the corner. Commiserations to Derek, David and Darren. And to add another 'D' to the list....The Big C turned up on my doorstep this year. Surgery and 33 doses of radiotherapy has hopefully got rid of it. Good riddance to 2014

A fishing chair that isnt really a chair but you can sit on it. And it carries stuff.

Ah ha, that's the one Paul. I remember reading a label on it stating 'rated to 14st 15oz' :D

Howard, Maidenhead Bait and Tackle had a natty rucksack/seat/thingy in their shop a couple of weeks ago. I can't for the life of me remember the manufacturer, but it had a comfy, fleecy type seat covering.

    Specimen and Specialist Groups

Oi, what's wrong with the Austin All-Aggro? Over the years my mate had three of them. They all felt that they had road wheels the same as the steering wheel.......SQUARE. :D

    Roach

I tend to agree with Mark. There were quite a few about last week. When searching for roach, on small rivers, I try and ignore the winding feature-filled areas and head for the widest, non-descript lengths.

Steve Banks are a bit muddy. Squillions of minnows (we need a big frost) Friday - the river was sock on. A bit of rubbish but nothing too bad. I guess all this rain will push it up, best to ring Stewart. I had this on Friday, couldn't quite shake the scales from the 1-15 to 2lb though.

    lower Thames

Very helpful Alan, cheers. I like the idea of moving from swim to swim, as we know location is paramount. As you say, things may just start to get harder. Winter draws on. ;)

    lower Thames

Alan, I would say 11 fish, 5 of which doubles, is a great return for a few months on the Thames. Well done, great fishing. Your photos in the gallery are impressive. Just a thought (and I don't mean anything sinister by this), do you think you've had any recaptures?
