No I appreciate all the input. I am on a very limited budget at the moment so Im very glad of the heads up regarding the Stratos. I have been toying with the idea of a s/h shimano for years now. But its like a minefield with that many options/models/opinions out there. One thing is coming...

wow! I opened a can of fox worms there. I suppose thats the trouble with reviews. they're written by people trying to be nice to the people who gave them the thing to review. Darryls post and Clives 'Nooooo" have persuaded me to cancel order (done) and think about taking up golf...

After having a good search around and reading a few reviews, I ended up settling on the Fox Stratos 7000E. It feels solid and will do exactly what I want. Found 2 for £40 each. Result. Thanks for all the help.

    My new website.

great illustrations. They've got an individual feel to them. Top stuff. Website works on my mac on both safari and chrome web browsers. How you learnt to build a website in 3 weeks is beyond me!

Hi Sean, I use a Shakespeare Mach 3 reel for lighter floatfishing and it is a great reel for the money I agree. The thing I like to do is actually touch and get to grips with a reel, but lets say my local tackle shops arent the best out there sadly, probably down to the internet I...

Cheers for the replies. I wont be using them for barbel. I will be using them mainly for tench/bream I cant seem to find any of the Okumas (theyre very similar to the one I picked up but mine is a smaller size) I am pretty interested in the Mitchell Avorunners they look and sound (read a few...

    inexpensive baitrunner recommendation

Hello, I guess ive already asked the main question in the thread title, BUT, all the cheaper reels Ive found thus far, (okuma etc) have had a small spool diameter and i really dont like this. So if anyone nows of a cheaper model with a nice diameter spool Id be very appreciative of the...

    Roach

Lovely fish Graham. I recently watched someone trotting for roach on a old video my dad has. Cant remember off the top of my head who/where/when. But the image burned now into my head now as this angler played a roach of 3lb+ is one i hope i can share someday. I know, HUGE dream, especially...

    cormorants

someone asked how much they eat, apparently from what I read a few days ago they need 1lb of fish a day to survive, but do sometimes take more and just leave it. Still 1lb of fish a day is 365lb of fish a year, I guess that gets a lot more when they nest and have young.

    Small River/Few Barbel Advice

I have the same problem with location. When the water is clear enough, which isn't often, you're hard pushed to spot a fish, let alone barbel. Again, the river I fish is full of holding features. It's a beautiful, but frustrating, river. I love it though!

    Small River/Few Barbel Advice

Cheers for the input. I do think that you have hit the nail on the head with possibly fishing one or two spots. I have been very mobile and I'm not complaining at catching chub from these swims, it all comes in handy for the winter. I have been fishing with 4mm halibut pellets for feed...

    Small River/Few Barbel Advice

Hello all, I fish a small river for its chub but last year I decided to see if I could catch the barbel from it that are definitely in there (what people have told me). On my third evening session I caught one of 9lb along with my PB chub of 5lb12oz. I fished the same tactics for another...
