I‘m sure you’ll enjoy it Zachary. It’s a quality production and a great read, with a wide range of topics to suit all specialisations. 😊 I’ve been reading it since the first issue and there hasn’t been a dud yet.👍

Will they take barbel rods (generally have shorter handles than carp rods) or are they designed for carp style rods? Just asking to make sure that they are okay for use with 12’ barbel rods? 😉
Dave
Although that is not recommended after you have had a hectic session!😂😂
Excellent weigh sling though - I’ve had mine for years now. It is not suited for larger (longer) fish though - I’ve got an Advanta one that fits that bill even if I have only had to use it on meat caught pike so far….😔

Glad someone else is catching pike on ledgered meat. I’m getting fed up with catching the things from the Hampshire Avon! Perhaps the pike boys should try it as an alternative to deadbaits in rivers?😉

Agree that XC weather is good while Weather and Radar provides a very comprehensive service. Also recommend Rain Today for immediate forecasts with excellent predictions of rain in the next hour. As for the BBC and Met Office, the Met is probably more reliable but neither is particularly good...
Alan,
Perhaps, rather than complaining at Martin for the use of plastic envelopes that CAN be recycled, you should be directing your concerns to those local supermarkets that are not currently offering plastic bag recycling facilities.😉

Sad to report that Budgie, one of the founders of the Avon Roach Project, has died.
Attached is a copy of the report from the Christchurch AC site.

Are they fish from domestic ponds that grew too big and were released into the nearest river/stillwater by their owners? Or could they be escapees from adjacent commercials? Just a thought.

Tony,
Day ticket stretches of the Avon are a bit thin on the ground. There is the LAA water @ Britford - there are barbel in there but not in great numbers. Alternatively, Christchurch offer a week holiday ticket, which gives access to all their waters - full details on their website...
Agreed but, unfortunately, that is what the majority of anglers seem to want these days. Either specimen waters with a limited stock of larger carp (all with names, of course!) or ‘runs’ waters, stuffed with small to medium sized carp. I’m sure the likes of Dick Walker and Fred J Taylor are...
Another heatwave and I will be hanging up my rods again until temperatures become more reasonable. Quite apart from protecting the fish (not that I ever catch many😕), it’s just too hot to fish during the day and my night fishing days are behind me now. Hopefully things will settle down by the...
Excellent article but in the current economic environment and with the formor Secretary of State for Defra, and most likely our next PM, promising immediate taxcuts if she does get in,where is the money going to come from to finance the oversight and enforcement that has been so clearly lacking...
I’m a big fan of the zany humour of Monty Python and Spike Milligan but this thread is becoming so bizarre that I am beginning to wonder if Ihave somehow wandered into an alternative universe. One things for sure, the hot weather is definitely to blame so why not just give it a rest lads, as...
Middle Avon is about 20 mins away for me with the Stour (Throop) perhaps another 10 mins, so not too bad and still affordable….just!!
Only longer trip I make these days is an annual close season outing to Marsh Farm which is around 60 miles and an hour or so each way, traffic permitting.
