Chuffin’ nora! What sort of distances have you been lumping all this around?
Honestly mate, i feel like I’m weighing myself down if I even take a small radio with me these days. Mind you, recent health issues have done wonders to concentrate my attention on such things and I now pursue weight...
Well I share your sentiments about clipping up and more often than not I just use simple running rigs like a John Robert’s link or such like. Surely though the whole point of this is to do what is says on the tin. Maybe it should be just called a Korda Camo Run Rig?
Ok, this is where it starts to get a bit more complicated.
I vaguely recall doing this now, about ten years ago with one of mine. Turning the pawl over will not achieve what you want it to. All that you change doing this is the angle at which the pawl point comes into contact with the wheel ie...
Garry Mills for the replacement pawl but if it’s not showing any wear then I’d guess that the problem is nothing to do with the pawl and might be more to do with the spring or the lever.
this is why I use P320 silicone carbide. Sand very lightly and It’s so fine that it just sands the grime off the surface rather than removing any cork material. I’ve done this with over 30 rods and have yet to have any reel bands become too loose to hold the reel tightly.
Ditto! This is me too. I absolutely detest having my hands all caked up with crappy ground bait. I don’t go to the lengths of having wet wipes in the van to clean handles, it now you mention it I just might start to….🙄
To be fair though I find that my rod handles don’t get to mucky when I’m...
yes, I have an early Wilson Avon that looks like the handle was made up of old wine bottle corks. Absolute crap, but then they were made down to a price rather than up to a standard.
By comparison, a Hardy LRH that I also own has the most sublime handle I’ve ever seen. Super slim and the...
Somewhere buried away I have an old cane fly fishing “noodle rod” that a previous owner has yacht varnished the handle on. I really ought to put a photo on here and anyone having thoughts of applying varnish onto their lovely cork handles will see how such an action is likely to result in not...
Washing up liquid and a scotchbrite seems to be the preferred method amongst the restorers but I always favoured a bit of 320 silicon carbide, as I usually have a few hundred meters of the stuff. Anything dirtier than normal usage can be sorted with oxalic acid. You won’t get the stuff I have...
This lot are now raking pre-orders so I guess they might be available pretty soon.

A lot of cane enthusiasts will tell you not to oil cork handles. I think Edward Barder also advises against doing so. I’m a French polisher and antique furniture restorer by trade and I have to say that I agree. Personally, I don’t like the look of oiled cork but perhaps more importantly, I’ve...
But on a more serious note: fishing an extremely low density stock river like the Great Ouse makes it hard to experiment in any meaningful way. People fish whole seasons without a barbel weather they move a lot or stay static.
I’ve always been convinced that whichever one I don’t do would the best option. And so I try and double bluff myself but that doesn’t work because end up double double bluffing myself. 🙄
I’ve heard this from others before Julian. You’ll get a phone call out of the blue one day telling you it’s ready.
As a warning of the perils in delaying these milestone purchases, I remember lusting over a Lythe reel and considering buying it for my Fortieth. I balked at the price back then...
