    EA Close Season Consultation

I suspect nothing will happen, and it's just lip service. The best option IMO and in a few people seems to be keep it but alter the dates. I've completed it anyway.

Sooo what did Santa bring you?

if I had a man-cave like that, I think I'd actually sleep in it. Honest.

Trotting on the warks Avon? Day tickets?

Hi Jon, The only one i can think of is the Manor Farm stretch at Harvington. It's not a bad bit of river, two or three meadows, with the first one not too far from a weir, so there's always a bit of flow. 8 quid a day on the bank. I've not fished it in a while, but there are always chub around...

    Barbel Seeker advice please

I've got a pair of 'Seekers' Graham, you can specify EVA (Duplon) or cork. I had mine last Christmas, the 1.75 SU's, a bit more 'steely' than my 1.75tc Daiwa's. Got to say, after a year of having them, they're the nuts. The new ones have isotopes in the handles. Only thing I don't like is the...

    Shimano x aero 4000 baitrunner

I've got x-aeros, but the 6000's. They're OK, but for some reason the line can end up either behind the spool housing, or under the spool itself sometimes, usually after casting, when a wind in your face catches the line. I did have a 6000OC, but sold it, and wished I hadn't, much better reel.

    Grubbing around in the dark

Great minds. I've been thinking the same. I've read Tony Miles book, "Top Tactics for Barbel" and he talks about maggots in detail, but his approach was for small rivers where you can you spot the fish. The same tactics must work on the WA and Lower Severn where i fish, feeding a lot of maggots...

    Targeting Roach on the Severn

I've had a few nice ones lately Dave, quite a few around the pound mark, usually on pellets designed for barbel. Graham Elliott has had a few too, up to around 1.10 I think, he fishes the same stretch as I do. The fish are mint too.

    Stupid weights

There's a tongue in cheek Facebook group, called 'Double Figure Barbel Legends', where some of us chronicle these silly claims, it's quite amusing, but as already said, there are some very nice fish that any barbel angler would be pleased with, which are claimed to be far higher than what they are.

    Baiting Strategy

Hemp for me too, it gives me great confidence. Hookbaits i tend to stick to meat/boilies, maybe a paste wrap. I've not caught a barbel on pellet so far this season.

    Double Standards

Agreed, the WA is fishing OK, I've been doing pretty well there lately. The 'Single Species Ambassador' was calling people that questioned him w***ers on his video diary thing last week, even though the Single Species Society he purports to respresent have closed their stretches to angling...

    Anybody stopped fishing?

Good to hear that fish is still around Neil, I've not been down that stretch for 12 months now, I fished it last year a few times but only got blanks. I'll have to revisit it at some point.

    Bait droppers

the best ones by a mile were the Seymo teardrop ones, 2oz, 4oz and 8oz. The 4oz ones were the best, they stopped making them, but i think Dinsmores make the same model now, not cheap though, 12-13quid i think.

    RACG

It's been brought around by the ongoing demise of the barbel society and the current state that's in. A lot of the new guys involved in the RACG are ex BS guys, Jerry, Shaun, Paul etc etc. Those guys should steer it in the right direction hopefully.

    Cold Water Barbel

I had a 10.8 a couple of seasons back with a water temp of less than 4c, so 37/38f. Lobworm was the bait. As said, even in the coldest of spells, they have to feed at some point, the hard bit is being there when they do I suppose.

    Otter petition.

Taylor's attitude is disgraceful, instantly blocking and ignoring anyone who dares question his beliefs. He's not the only one on the BS that does it either. His best mates would disagree, and of course all their sycophants. I believe in cycles and predator/prey swings as said above, but I do...

    Grayling for the pot

No one has a problem with taking trout or grayling for the pot, but if you're a high profile angler like DT is, you don't advertise it, like MM says. Angling has enough problems without high profile anglers posting pics of dead fish up. What i find quite sickening is the amount of his fans...

Thanks Dave, slightly tongue in cheek, i couldn't resist!

    Grayling for the pot

Given that he's an ambassador for the BS Chris, he really shouldn't be posting pics of dead grayling up that he's having for tea. This is the same bloke that went off on a rant a few weeks ago at the AT meeting, saying he wanted an otter cull.....very hypocritical of him to killing fish...

    Grayling for the pot

When you don't use unhooking mats, and own up to using a keepnet like he has, I doubt whether munching a few grayling would bother him. Ambassadorial.
