Thanks for the replies, I do appreciate the advice. I will go to the Romsey fair and see if I can't resist something. I have been before and bought my last centerpin from there and almost got bankrupted by a beautiful Barder rod, although looking at todays prices it would have doubled in value...
Maybe they mysteriously weren't there at all which to be fair would have been handy as I
genuinely wanted to run the float through that swim.
It is on my mind that I am not overly careful with tackle. The drying and storying is extra hassle.
I spent a lovely last day of the season romping and chucking a float about. On the slow muddy walk back, I came across a couple of dapper chaps who were fishing with vintage tackle. Whilst I stopped to pass the time of day, one of the guys rod burst into life. I was spell bound by the lovely...
Have only used mine once so far but for a non connoisseur and for the low cost it appears to be decent rod. It's a bit hobson's choice in the two piece 13ft float rod department and might have chosen differently if there were more choice but for my needs it's adequate.
I find the closing of this shop more jarring than most others although any angling shop closing is not good. Davis and the Royalty are as iconic as each other that it would be as absurd if the fishery announced it's closure. Not a frequent visitor to the area but some of my earliest childhood...
No one ever had a go at someone like Mike Wilson for his iconic Savay shots, strange. Not much gurning at the camera in those photos. It seems a minor detail to pick up on really and not something that ever bothered me.
A good pen knife is a valuable item to have at home or the bank. This is the one I have or had more accurately. Lost the bloody thing but will be replacing it with the same model...
It is an exceptional looking fish regardless of size with a big old smile beaming above. Venue should be irrelevant as long as it is for the country the record list is created for. The records list should be there to demonstrate the potential size a fish can reach naturally (debatable according...
Is Nutrabaits still as good? I think it has changed hands a couple of times since Bill Cottam. Nutrabaits was my go to in the 90s for basemix and flavours.
My immediate thought was North Westerns. I have included some decals in picture below. All very utilitarian. Possibly apropo of nothing at all, my current 42in net arms that I have used for nearly 30 years of carp fishing are North Western built which is quite impressive as every other item...
Interesting. I just relooked at my rod and the build is spot on. None of the faults that you have encountered at all. Not dismissing your experience though.
