    River Wye conditions

The river is low, clear and cold, head for the Hereford town centre stretch (Belmont), its full of fish this time of year, you might find the fish have moved out towards the middle as its so clear, when its up with colour you can catch on the inside. Bailiffs along there will give you good advice.

TF Gear FSI specialist 11'float Rod

Hi Alec, yes the rods had a very high RRP but they were sold from day 1 at a heavy discount, I believe I paid about £130 for mine.

TF Gear FSI specialist 11'float Rod

Alec, I have one and its classified as a "specialist" rather than float rod. I use mine occasionally for low water summer barbel with 8lb mainline.

Day ticket waters or club ticket when traveling long distance and limited days per year?

Jon, the usual rule applies.... the further you walk form the parking areas the fewer anglers. Holme Lacey 4 has to be booked so that is always quiet and the other Holme Lacey beat is quiet too usually.

Ledgering upstream vs downstream pros and cons?

Jon, Id say an upstream cast is worthwhile in any swim where you can regardless of high/low water level. Its always worth exploring the swim if the downstream cast isn't producing.

Day ticket waters or club ticket when traveling long distance and limited days per year?

John, if you join HDAA then Woody in his tackle shop will always try and put you on fish. Also Im very happy to share info, Ive been a member for about 10 years now and fished all their stretches many times. Lots of fish right through, especially chub and you have the bonus town centre fishing...

    17ft float rods

Neil, I haven't fished with my 17' Acolyte a lot but its a lot more powerful than I imagined. I hooked and landed an 8lb Wye barbel on a 0.10 bottom and I was surprised at how good the rod was. It will definitely cope with big chub easily imo and the odd barbel.

    New Drennan Acolyte

i never use a net when wading, just hand line everything in the water.

    New Drennan Acolyte

Ive got 2 x 13', 1 x 14' and 3 x 15' plus an Acolyte 17'. Like them all in different situations but if I had to pick one length only I'd probably go with the 15's or the 13s. But I don't have to choose so its good to have them all !

    Torrix or hi s rods

I might be in the minority but I prefer my 12' 1.75 torrix over the 11' 1.75, the 12' bends more freely which I like but not as much as the i-powers which I like even more !

    Vehicle of choice

Sorry Phil, my error ! Yes I like my cars and like you I’m prepared to take the hit !!

    Vehicle of choice

Mike, good advice but if you’re spending max £2k on a car you’re getting the cheapest motoring possible so you can’t bemoan the odd expensive bill ! People buying high end new cars are dropping anything up to £10k a year depreciation, as I said before you pay your money and take your pick !
