Are you happy to pay to watch fishing videos?

Not many better videos on YouTube than those featuring Terry. A born storyteller who just conveys all his passion so easily.

your reasoning for your leader length and material?

Think the question refers to the length of line from lead/feeder to hook. That could actually be longer than the hook length itself as there are options to use a shorter hook length, but adjust/extend the distance from lead to hook (e.g. Enterprise adjuster beads, or even just a short hook...

The size 10 wide gapes are my go to dace hook now :p:p:p

    using old reels

Seeing all those Cardinals makes me think of many days as a young teenager gazing lovingly at all the pictures in the annual Abu Tight Lines catalogues. Wish I had kept them!!

    Feeder line

Sorry for the delay in replying.......yes, I am on the original sensor at the moment.

    Feeder line

I always thought Sensor was cheap rubbish, but since trying it I am converted. It has coped very well for me on rocky swims on the Ribble, and when I recently had to pull for a break, the 15lb line held up well and the size 10 hook snapped first, just below the barb.

    Swingtips

Used them quite a bit in my younger days whilst match fishing, especially on bream venues like Somerset's River Huntspill. Also used one with an isotope to target big roach on a canal. Were a pain at times to cast, but the bite detection was excellent and it has advantages over a quiver if you...

    Melting Lead

Thanks Richard, have seen them but probably more than I can justify for just a few occasional productions! On a related note, I have seen your tutorial thread and was wondering how you pour the lead with the feeder cage in place in the mould. Is it just a precision exercise between the cage...

    Melting Lead

Cheers John, so what do you use as a heat source?

    Melting Lead

I have read some very helpful threads about making your own feeders (especially Richard Issac's tutorial) and have accumulated some lead over the years, so fancy giving it a go, broadly following Richard's approach. Many years ago I tried it on a very small scale to adapt small feeders I used...

Quick change hook rig - Korda Hook Klips

Thanks for that recommendation Bob. I had a look and ordered a few bits as a bit of a trial. Very competitive pricing and free delivery. Arrived today after ordering on Saturday night so really good service. Haven't tried the items yet but the braid I ordered looks decent as do the hooks, both...

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

Not sure if those are the same quivers but I think I have a 3,4 and 6 oz too, but bought an extra one when I picked the rod up, so am not sure which ones were supplied.

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

I have had the 1.75 version for several years and have used it with the avon top for barbel on the Middle Severn and with the quiver tips for chub on the Thames. I really like it. Have had some decent barbel on it and it has a nice playing action. I did get a few additional quiver tips to...

    Barbel

Gary, the original poster, Lee, is my fishing buddy, so he is also fishing the stretches you mention. We normally fish together having both joined the club at the same time :)

    Bank chair

I rate the Korum Aeronium - very light and if you use Korum rucksacks it can be clipped on to carry it. My only negative is that the legs lack the adjustability of larger, heavier chairs, making it a bit harder if you set up on a steep bank, although I often just fold the rear legs underneath...

    Fox Horizon

Glad you got sorted Adrian. Christened mine on Tuesday with a 6.5lber. Really happy with mine so far!!

    Fox Horizon

So don't you have any marked as 1.75? All my tips have the test curve under the epoxy. They are in short supply everywhere. I got mine from Future Fishing, Farndon, who I recommend highly (and think they had a few more in stock for £129). One or two other places had them in stock but for c £170.

    Fox Horizon

Adrian, both Lee and I bought a pair of Horizons in the last week, and we both saw your thread. Our tips on all 4 rods are definitely different (it was the first thing I checked after reading your post!). Are yours not marked with 1.75 or 2.25 at the base of the tip section? I haven't measured...

    Rucksacks

I use one of the older Korum rucksacks, that carries a chair. Have to say it does all you say you want. I can carry my bait in it at a push and its reasonably comfy to carry. I have used it on some long walks on the Severn, from Arley to Trimpley if anyone knows that area, which is a long hike...

    Go to hookbaits

Pellets, dumb bells or conventional boilies for me. I started my occasional barbel fishing back in the pre pellet days on the Severn when it was all hemp and caster with double caster on the hook. Really busy fishing, match style, one rod, stood up in the water, getting a bite most casts but...
