If it isn't working then change something - peg, method, feeding regime, rig etc. Changing something can boost morale by giving renewed hope. I've frequently switched from stick float to static bait or vice versa and caught almost immediately after a switch.
I've had some good fish over the years but my favourite captures haven't always been the biggest fish of any species. They're the ones that I've put most thought into to get them on the bank. A Yorkshire Derwent barbel of 13lb01oz (1oz off the then record) was particularly satisfying. A 12lb06oz...
From the top of my head though I've probably missed a few, especially smaller streams and drains:
Aire
Calder
Dee (Wales)
Derwent (Yorkshire)
Hull
Idle
Nidd
Ouse (Yorkshire)
Rye
Seven
St.Pats
Swale
Tamar
Trent
Ure
Wharfe
Overseas, but probably lots more, my travelling days were often a drunken...
I've got a Chimera 3 and had a pair of 12' dark carbon. I'd say that the Chimera 3 bends a lot more in a more progressive way when needed. Although not particularly stiff I found the dark carbon more suited to chucking a feeder a long way which isn't generally my style of fishing. The Chimera 3...
If you're asking how did I lose them, pulled out of one (felt like a chub), hooklength went on a rock on one and the third one I stood up to play a fish, did a Bambi on ice impression in the mud and by the time I'd picked myself up the unknown fish had gone! Landed the next nine though so...
What do I do when I can't be bothered? I think about people I know who are no longer able to get on the bank, I think about mates who left us with ambitions unfulfilled, I think about the cold winter ahead just around the corner and get out there and do it!
Hi Paul, Al did mention yours and Nigel's trip in glowing terms!
I'm in a similar situation to you, couldn't isolate but it's much easier now with a test out there preflight then a day 2 PCR test on return to the UK which you must book preflight. They let me back in anyway! Just for peace of...
Just back from four days fishing for cats on the Ebro with Al Henderson guiding again from his boat. http://ebro-catfishing.com/
Had a great time once again with kittens of 20lb, 25lb, 35lb and some proper ones of 88lb, 105lb and 172lb. The latter stripped 150m of line off me before we got the...
I swapped over the trebles on my favourite pike lures to the Pallatrax trebles. Haven't lost a fish yet and a lot easier to remove from both fish and net.
Well in Richard, chuffed to bits for you.
I was going to offer to guide you for free of course for your first barbel as I've done for many others. No need now!
I wouldn't say that there is a typical Trent set up, depends on where you're fishing, how far you're casting and the conditions.
I've got 1.75lb to 2.75lb rods and everything in between. Reels, close in work centrepins or Shimano 5000 reels or up to 8000 size for a chuck to the far bank.
