    River dee grayling

Dee Anglers is £25/year, there are good numbers of grayling on their beats. You can buy online. Card runs from 1st January - 31st December. http://deeanglers.co.uk/index.html I think you can buy day tickets from local tackle shops. You could try this one in Chester...

    UFO,s whilst fishing.

I spent many years crossing the world's oceans as a bridge watchkeeping Officer, saw many things in the night sky, meteorites, fireballs, comets, St. Elmo's fire, aforementioned parachute rockets, satellites, northern (and southern) lights, star scintillation but every so often we spotted...

    What would you buy ?

I'm in a similar situation with Christmas pressies so am going to ask for various angling club memberships with the promise that I'll get twelve months enjoyment out of them!

    End of season

From September onwards I often find that it's all or nothing, either struggle for a bite or a real red letter day. No doubt that the barbel are back fighting fit though having beefed themselves up ready for the winter.

That's correct Stuart, on the Mersey now after being on the Humber 1996-2002. We sent a crack team over for this conference! I was back on rota yesterday otherwise I'd have been at conference. We have been known to get a bit of business done in between pints!

After two years talking about getting one and the last three hours scratching my head at the sheer choice I've plumped for this...

    Fishing Safe

Paul, mine has a toggle inflation in case the auto-inflate doesn't work and also a non-return valve inflation tube for you to blow into as a plan C. 150N should keep you afloat if you enter the water conscious, guess we can't cover all bases, just risk mitigation.

    Fishing Safe

From a mariner's perspective Paul, a lifejacket is considered to be the bulky non-inflating type that if fitted correctly will keep you the right way up and your head above water even if you enter the water face first and are unconscious. There are different manufacturers and ratings for weight...

Mitten Crabs in the Yorkshire Ouse

Having conducted dozens of inspections of merchant ship ballast tanks over the years I can confirm that they contain all kinds of creatures. The recent legislation to restrict discharge is however very much a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

    Fishing Safe

As an extra precaution I always let my wife know which stretch of river I'm fishing and what time I expect to be back. If fishing alone then a quick text to an angling mate or two who know the stretch and my favourite swims, I've given my wife the contact numbers, especially important when I...
