Nottingham Anglers Association for Beeston and East Bridgford.
Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers for Ladypit Farm (also lots of the tidal Trent).
Nottingham Piscatorials for East Stoke.
All cheap club books of around £50 per season.
Responding to the last two posts:
I have caught more chub on the middle Trent this season than combined for the last ten seasons. Fish ranging from 8oz to 5lb 12oz. All caught while barbel fishing and trying not to catch them by ignoring bites and using long hairs.
Also, why are there no otters...
You are like any successful angler, very fussy about certain things!
Nothing irritates me more than when you go into a tackle shop and they haven't got what you want. They try to get you to buy something else and say, "This is better." NOT SO! I go elsewhere or buy online.
I agree with you Steve. I have some old pike rods that I used over 40 years ago and they have rather small eyes by today's standards. Never had any problems with stop knots. Also I love single leg rings. Maybe I'm not as rough on my rods as some are. 😁
These are the rods that I've been using on the middle Trent for the past two years. Excellent for the price. I have more expensive rods that don't get used!
In my opinion you need 6000 size Shimanos for cranking in 4oz plus feeders on the Trent. Found that out years ago when match fishing regularly. Smaller reels just don't last.
I would love to report some of my fish but the areas of River Trent that I have been fishing have a publicity ban. I can't even report and leave out the venue.
I've just started going back to where I fished last season so hopefully I'll put something in the river reports. Still won't say...
Apparently a lot of the brightness claims about Chinese made headlamps on Ebay are false. Some of them have unsafe charging units as well. Got this from a sea fishing forum a few years ago.
I have a Fenix HL60R. Lots of brightness options, waterproof, shockproof, rechargeable and a 5 year...
If it's selfish having a bit of fun while someone, somewhere is dying, then yes, I'm selfish. But most of us keep away from others in the open air and pose no threat of spreading this horrible disease. I've not even seen anyone else on my last four trips!
Like it or not, the Angling Trust is the only organisation that represents us to government. I personally think they do a good job although I have criticised them in the past. Even if you don't always agree with them I think it is every angler's duty to support the one body that tries it's best...
I am extremely fussy about the hooks I use and I truly believe that the hookhold from gripz is as good as any barbed hook. I fish the Trent like you do Kevin and I have caught plenty of barbel this season on gripz hooks.
I hope you find a hook to suit you as I am aware that hook choice is a...
I think that the gripz hooks are the same as "the hook" but with grooves instead of a barb. I use gripz wide gape hooks and, believe me, they are very good hooks. Very strong, very sharp, they hook the fish well and I lose hardly any fish. Also easy to remove. Bit more expensive but it is the...
The stretches of River Trent that I fish are more heavily fished during the day for little reward. I go down in the late afternoon, carry on into darkness and catch plenty of barbel. When I arrive, most are packing in and moaning about how poorly the river is fishing this year. And as for chub...
