Are there any options on line colour? I use clear line in the hope that it is less visible to the fish. Do any of you use coloured lines and think that it makes no difference?
Like you, I come from a match fishing background and I know what you mean about heavy lines. I fish the middle Trent and I use Berkley Trilene Big Game in 12lb. Not springy or wirey and robust. Well I like it. I understand that line is a very personal thing!
None of my Mitchell Match "rollers" have ever rolled, when new or now. They were not designed to roll, unlike the Mitchell 300 or 410 rollers which are very free running. If you leave the bail screw slightly loose, there is a real danger that it will slowly undo and suddenly you will end up with...
I still love using Mitchell Match 440A reels for float fishing on rivers. I don't think they are strong enough for feeder fishing though and there is no roller on the bail arm.
I have no objection to anyone using these devices but they are not for me (on rivers). With water craft skills built up over the years it is possible to judge the approximate depth along with other important factors such as where the main flow is, where the underwater snags are and also visible...
I use standard (not low diameter copolymer) nylon in 10lb breaking strain for the following reasons:
• It is tough and abrasion resistant.
• It doesn't tangle easily.
• The fish don't seem to mind its lack of flexibility.
• And best of all, for tight people like me, it is cheap!
I pay a...
It says that the white tailed eagle pirates food from otters! It doesn't eat otters. Worst luck!
Does anyone know what will EAT otters? Lynx or wolves? Maybe someone could do some illegal introductions.
I have a Fox R series rucksack that I'm currently very happy with. Used it for a year and over 50 sessions with no zip problems. It's just the right size for me, not too big and not too small and also has attachment points for an unhooking mat.
I fish some snag pits on the Trent. I find the best way is to use a lead/ feeder far heavier than you need. Then it holds wherever it hits bottom and the current cannot pull it even a little bit towards a rock or snag. When you retrieve, you need to wind like crazy to get the lead or feeder up...
All anglers should be members of the Angling Trust. They do an excellent job of representing our sport to Government on a very limited budget. They only have around 17000 individual members out of well over a million of us. For less than the cost of a cheap club book (£29). Yes, that's all! You...
They have more money at the moment due to the increase in anglers. In my opinion the only decent thing they do is Calverton fish farm and that is debatable at times.
If fishing is classed as exercise, and I believe it is, you can still do it in your local area once a day. The Angling Trust will no doubt post guidance for fishing clubs soon.
Nottingham Federation not as good as Nottingham Anglers in my opinion. They don't have as much water and it isn't as good. I don't have a Nottingham Federation book.
There are even some free stretches where you can catch barbel. See http://www.bobrobertsonline.co.uk/the-ultimate-trent-guide/
I've had fish to 11lb 14oz on a free stretch that hardly anyone fishes anymore!
