I buy large bags off eBay (210x70) half fill leaving a decent tail then squeeze the bag to get the air out then twist the tail and wrap it round the swivel on the lead then lick it and stick it to the bag,you can also trap the hooklink under the tail making it tangle resistant, sounds a bit...
Try using a mixture of Sonubaits krill paste and fibre paste but use liquid krill instead of water or Sticky Baits krill paste. If you try the former give it plentye of time to absorb the liquid and "set".Can be a bit messy but with experimence and patience a good paste can be achieved
I used to use Sufix Camfusion but due to it being discontinued have changed to ESP Tungsten, been very impressed with its durability so far, well worth a look :)

David's post does make sense but hook sizes and patterns today are a very different kettle of fish to the "standard" sizing from a few years ago, just a ploy to sell more hooks, but in saying that I do use Korda wide gape X hooks just for the extra strength it gives.
If you want night fishing on the Severn take a look at The Sidings Fishery at Rhea Hall Highley,it's run by Paul Bradley and a day or night ticket is just £5,if you look on the Severn Gallery he has quite a few pics on there, some quality barbel, well worth a look.
