    Catching at any cost

I once caught 44 Barbel, 6 Chub and a Perch from the River Teme, during a single session. I had to empty the keepnet half way through the session. All caught on the pole using hemp and caster. A one off never to be repeated session, with subsequent sessions only producing 20+ fish 🙂 Around the...

2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

I trawled through a few of the Barbel related Facebook pages yesterday, which I normally avoid like the plague. A search on the Guru Barbel rods, claimed the rods are built on Daiwa blanks and a few first hand experiences claimed the rods had snapped low down on the cast. One guy who worked in a...

2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

When Fox first entered the reel market, I bought two FS7000 bait runners. Within weeks the anti reverse failed on one and the free spool leaver snapped on the other. Both sent back for repair under warranty. They sent me two repaired reels back, which were cosmetically totally battered in...

2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

Unfortunately I had such a bad experience with Fox products and relating customer service a number of years ago that I swore never to go near them again. I’ve held true to it too!

Cheers for that and I will order a pair 👍🏻

2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

The majority of my Barbel fishing is done with 11’ 1.5lb TC custom rods and centrepins. Occasionally I also use a couple of 12’ 1.75lb Torrix with fixed spool reels. I want to add a couple 2.25lb 12’ rods to my armoury. I’d love Chimera 3’s or Basias, but for such limited use, I can’t really...

    Small river barbel rod

Angler Workshop 11ft Specialist No 1, lovely soft tip and enough power lower down to handle any size Barbel. Built by Kev Baines and cheaper than most rod builders, which I’ve come across. Built on an unstated older Harrison blank (not Torrix, GTI or Chimera). It’s just awesome and my go to rod 👍🏻

    Elliptical shaped pellets

It’s as I described in the original post, the majority of high oil pellets come from the aquaculture industry and not from bait companies who simply repackage them. The elliptical shape was supposed to slow the sink rate through the fish farm cages, but for whatever reason that thinking changed.

    Elliptical shaped pellets

Does anyone still make/supply elliptical shaped pellets? I’m well aware that the elliptical shaped pellets came from the aquaculture feed industry, with the logic being that they offered a slower sink rate through fish farm cages. This lead to less feed waste and for whatever reason the...

    Frozen Hemp

Re comments on Hinders Hemp, I know someone who received a batch earlier this week. His comment was that much of it isn’t splitting and he’s not a happy bunny considering how much he paid for it!

    Frozen Hemp

That was a thing many years ago before boillie and pellet mania. I know one guy who used the create what he called a Barbel block. It was basically hemp and corn, frozen in a container with a large stone in the middle. On arrival the frozen block was placed in the swim. Never saw it in action...

    DRENNAN Specialist rod info

I personally think that the Drennan SS Handle is bomb proof and I’ve had mine for years with regular use. Following every dozen or so sessions I do the following: 1, Remove the internal pole and wipe both it and the internal mechanism down with hot soapy water. 2, Wet a couple of pieces of...

    New Drennan Barbel Rods

I'm going to withdraw my assumed criticism of these rods. Had a waggle in the tackle shop yesterday and on the face of it they appear ok, and especially the heaver version. Drennan seem to have changed the lacquer coating on their specialist rods too, as it appears to be a lot smoother and less...

Pair of lightweight shimano baitrunners wanted

Summer work on the Severn with 1.5 and 1.75 TC rods, Shimano 4000D. Heavier work with flood rod 6000D. One of my 4000D’s is pushing 14 years old. Quality bomb proof reel, if you look after them 👍🏻

Drennan Puddle Chucker Carp feeder as a chub rod?

That metallic blue fish is not the best, but trust me, the rods fish playing action is awesome. Perfect for those snaggy swims, without being over gunned. I was so impressed with it, I also bought the 11ft medium feeder rod for Perch fishing 👍🏻

Drennan Puddle Chucker Carp feeder as a chub rod?

Get a Drennan Vertex 11ft Carp Feeder Rod, it’s the best Chub quiver rod that I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a few over the years. My local tackle shop was selling them off cheap, as apparently the whole Vertex range is a poor seller, as everyone wants Acolytes. I was so impressed with it, I...

    New Drennan Barbel Rods

Mentioned on another thread. I have real issues with Drennan’s specialist range of rods. The green lacquer finish, is supposed to make them look like the original specialist range of rods from 25 years ago i.e. the legendary Super Specialist Duo rods. In reality I found the lacquer will scratch...

Weed cutter with bank stick screw fitment

I’ve got this one: https://www.taskers-angling.co.uk/products/leedaweedcutter Small and compact, cuts through ranunculus with ease. No blade guard and dry it after use or it will corrode.
