How often do you replenish your mainline?

I mostly fish with Centrepins using Drennan Camo XT in 15lb BS. As I only put around 40 meters on the pin, I think nothing of changing it every 2 or 3 sessions and especially if I've had a scrap with a few good fish! On fixed spool reels, maybe every half dozen sessions and due to backing line...

    Narrow Drum Speedia

If you want to make it look really good, soak both parts of the reel in neat Dettol for 48 hours and all the black paint will flake off. It will then polish up really nicely with suitable metal polish.

    Perch

It’s the W3, 5 - 15g and is ideal for fishing cheb and Texas rigs in the 5 to 7g range. There are more model options available in the spin style rods, rather than the casting rod, which I have. Also don’t be tempted to upgrade to W6 as in my experience the burgundy varnish chips off far too...

    Trudex reels

The Dettol tip does work, or at least it did for me when stripping the paint off a couple of Speedia Pins. Note however I used neat Dettol and soaked the spool and back plate for 48 hours.

    Specialist Videos

Few random bits relating to points covered on this thread: Fishflix is worth a month subscription of any anglers money, there's some good stuff on there IMHO; really enjoyed it and I'll subscribe again in a few months to see what else is new. The Chub videos are ace 👍 Re vloggers, they can be...

    Combi rig - This season’s rig nonsense/improvement

Re the whole PVA mesh bag attachment thing, have you tried this approach: https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/avid-carp-pva-links?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_NdB6c6EYrPisegS3IGTwFMiInQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjLTai9_thwMVWpJQBh1P8AMTEAQYASABEgK0__D_BwE Clip in onto the lead, attach your pva bag and...

Korum waist trotting tray, Is this a good or dumb idea?

I loaded up my original Korum ruckbag last night and it must be at least 17 years old! Continuously overloaded and abused, but always wiped clean after ever session. Defo one of my best ever angling purchases and not sure how the current models compare in both quality and longevity?

    JW Young - servicing?

Be very careful attempting this on a Youngs pin, as it turned into a mare for me. Depending on the model, the bearings are held in place by a circlip, which was difficult to remove. Once removed and bearings replaced, I just couldn’t refit a new circlip; tried all sorts and in the end I had to...

    Landing net head

Agree with the Drennan SS Nets mentioned above in 26” size. Ideal for Barbel up to 13lb+ https://www.drennantackle.com/products/nets-and-handles/landing-nets/specialist-landing-nets-24-26/

    Advice on rod selling.

I’ve sold a few rods in the past, delivered using Parcel Force 48 hour door to door and without issue. I typically use the hard cardboard tubes, which I save when receiving new rods. If you have a local tackle shop, which you use, ask them to save you some. More recently, I’m a member of a...

    Youngs Pin ratchet spring

I had a Speedia rachet spring, which I struggled to reshape, so I heated it up, reshaped slightly and it was fine thereafter 👍🏼

    Youngs Pin ratchet spring

If the rachet spring is easy to remove, remove it and if it’s bent/out of alignment, heat it up and straighten.

    Custom big river rods.

Have a look at the 2.5lb TC Torrix rods, which Andy Bell is selling in the classified section. I met him to collect a pair of Insight SU Barbel rods last weekend. He brought the Torrix to show me too, I had a waggle and they are very nice Barbel rods. Mint condition too 👍🏻

    Custom rod builders

I too am in the NW and I have previously had rods from Kev Baines at Anglers Workshop in Newcastle-under-Lyme. He did retire, but I then heard he started up again and in the same premises. Tel: 01782 561515 He builds on Harrison blanks and is cheaper than other rod builders in my experience.

Bit of fun... What's everyone's preferred boilie of choice

I so wish that Mainline Baits still produced the Maple 8 base mix and activator liquid. Never has a bait filled me with so much confidence. Rolled my own and it worked anywhere and year round ☹️

2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

I’ve just collected them from Andy, so I’m sorted now Joe 😎 Mint condition and stunning rods 👍🏻

    Hinders Elips Pellets

I too am struggling with the large size, when how to best present them on the hook. Re the size, these pellets will come from the aquaculture industry, so hinders will have zero say on what size is available, they just buy direct and repackage them. They are nothing like the original elips in...

    DAIWA SENSOR LINE PROBLEMS

Re 6lb line, personally I really like the Drennan Camo XT. Use it for my winter Perch and Chub fishing in 6lb.
