Hi Steve.
I have a couple of them as well as 2 of the x flites which I guess these replaced. I was using the rod in the heavier version a week or so ago to chuck 5oz leads into a rising River Thames. I've also used it for close in carp fishing and in the lighter version they're perfect for...
Joe, not sure if this helps but Grey's do a new twin tip barbel rod in 1.75 & 2.25lb TC. I've got 2 as well as both of the x flites you've mentioned and have been very impressed with the versatility of the newer rod. I was chucking 5oz leads on the Thames recently when it was up and running fast...
Fascinating I must say. Thanks for taking the time to explain and to provide some examples Ray.
It got me thinking that if the information such as temps, water levels etc were put into an excel you could tab the columns to see what the various measures were when you did catch. It would allow...
Interesting thoughts, certainly generated some comments and conversation.
As I mentioned I fish the Thames and don't have any issues with the bottom rubbing the line so have been fishing mono strait through with some tungsten droppers range hook end to pin it down. Ive had 2 double figure...
My river fishing tends to be exclusively on the Thames which isn't too tough on the line but I was experimenting a little on the lakes this summer to try & figure out a suitable set up for the rivers.
As I've said I've ordered some 25lb which I'm hoping will sort the issue out on the lake I...
I've ordered some 25lb fluorocarbon that according to the description is carbon coated and has good abrasion resistance. I guess I'll be using the 15lb for those times when I want to use a fluoro hooklength - I ordered 300 metres though :(
Thanks for all the tips & advice. One of the many...
The lake has a lot of mussels as well so that won't be helping, I didn't realise it damaged so easily.
I'll have a look at either a heavier breaking strain or one of the mainline's suggested. Thanks for the tips.
Hi all.
I fish with braid as a mainline but have started using 15lb fluorocarbon as a leader to help avoid hookpulls with close in fish and to also help sink the line. I've been fishing a local lake with heavy weed at present and am having real issues with he fluorocarbon rubbing and fraying...
I keep an eye on temps but tend to follow the levels more keenly. As others have mentioned I favour a falling river level if possible but an evening on the bank beats an evening in front of the telly!
The Thames is on the doorstep and pretty sure most of it will be free fishing. Bit further upstream from me so I can't help further but perhaps post on the river reports page for some local info?
