    Supersized supermoon!

What direction will the moon rise on Monday evening? Best to be on the opposite bank I'm supposing, for both aesthetic and stealth reasons?

    Curse of the 'guest ticket'

Hope this works for me next June on a certain stretch of the Nidd. I've already got more yearbooks than I can afford, and won't be joining this other club just because it's the most assured place to catch in June, but it's not day ticket water so I've already asked a couple of mates to take me...

    Tip Lights

Last night was the first time i'd ever fished opposite a bunch of people who were using isotopes, well basically the first time I've fished in darkness near anyone else. I'm a bit thick and for about an hour I was thinking "all these people have got green or red head torches...must be something...

    Tip Lights

Last night was the first time i'd ever fished opposite a bunch of people using isotopes. i'm a bit thick and for about an hour I was thinking "all these people have got green or red head torches...must be something to do with fish being put off by normal torches...". The penny finally dropped...

    BAA 16lbe? ?

Just seen this thread ... page five though and nobody's yet wondered where we can get some "chereso" which is the bait given for this very heavy-boned sixteen pounder. Anyone know if LIDL have any in? Or can we conclude that if the bait contains three separate spelling mistakes ,the weight...

    Fish on fruit..

This might be a tangent, but I'll ask it here because you seem to be the man with the nutritional knowledge... can fish be more attracted to fruits and veg that have started to ferment? I ask this because when the corn has been opened a week or more, and perhaps been on a couple of trips to the...

    Do Barbel go off baits

If anyone has a cupboard full of garlic spam I'd just like to tell them that yes, all the barbel in England have definitely gone off it. It just doesn't work any more. Thank goodness they've stopped making it or we'd all be wasting our money. So I'll take it off your hands for let's say 50p a...

    Sorry - repeat post.

    Supposed Ray Walton claim??

Clearly fish species vary in their tolerance to hypoxia both in and out of the water. Crucian carp in particular are legendary for long survival out of the water as well as in water where there just isn't enough oxygen for any other species. Goldfish similar but to a lesser extent. At the...

New fishery open on the River Wye which might be of interest

Ha, yes, sorry. I remembered this thread before we set off last week, and only had time to quickly jump into the thread and scribble down a phone number .... stan's as it turns out, rather than Robert Fox's. Doh! Oh well, Stan's was great, and I'll know better next time and maybe this...

New fishery open on the River Wye which might be of interest

Thnks to this thread for the heads-up on this FABULOUS fishery where we had a great day on Monday, not in terms of fish caught really, but in almost every other way. We fished about 2- 9pm and the total catch was just two 6-pounders at dusk for my Mrs, casting absolutely on the button into a...

    River wye camping

Thanks for the advice and info everyone - will call them today, and yes Andy, I will mention BFW. Targeting Ross as start point of the mini-tour because I've only just realised how much quicker it is to get there than Hereford. We could leave Leeds at 7 and be in the pub by 10 with any luck...

    River wye camping

Did anybody establish whether there's still camping at the White Lion under the new management? Fancy a Wye tour in the van over an extended bank holiday and camping at pubs is always the best of both worlds ...

Tiny rivers, will barbel be found?

Spent the weekend just gone at a wedding on the banks of the Frome so you can bet that last week I was googling about the river and found a few tasty snippets of useful info like this one of yours ... every so often during the weekend I'd sneak away to pursue my noble art, with telescopic rod...

    Worst barbel handling ever?

That Spain? I've seen how some of them handle carp on their rocky reservoirs ... no landing mats, even no landing net sometimes, so imagine it's the same for barbel for many (but by no means all). I can't bear to think about it really.
