    Trotting/Wading

I'd also reccomend you go somewhere where you can try them on, as there is a surprising amount of difference in different manufacturers sizing. Another advantage of waders is that you can access areas where you are fishing on firm ground but would be very wet getting there without them.

    Specialist Rods (1.25-1.5lbtc)

Drennan series 7 1.25 avon, fantastic versatile rod but not sure if still available.

Have a go at fishing for grey mullet

Sounds great, coincidentally I was out after them today but they were being extra tricky, only managed a smallish one..

    trotting rod

I use a 14ft plus for Barbel on the Wye and it has dealt extremely well with them, even in faster water. I'm a big fan of the range generally, the 12ft Carp waggler is probably my overall favourite for most of the fishing I do, which is small river Chubbing. Great for canal Tench as well and...

    Riverfly Monitoring

Very worthwhile, the more data that can be gathered the better.

    Waders.

2 sizes is usually about right for me and I just wear normal socks.

    Which centrepin to choose?

Yes, but the ratchet lever on mine is so stiff you need both hands to operate which for me is an irritation when trotting. Much prefer the Bob James because of that.

    Which centrepin to choose?

The okumas are all good but it can be annoying not having a quick release spool,( i wonder how many of those nuts have been dropped and lost in the river/long grass ) particularly when you are starting out. I don't find the ratchet knob particularly commodious either, although the up side is...

    Chub in the winter

I'd love to give Throop a go, must get up there one day, it's been good on my local this autumn/ winter. Usually your lucky to get a four or two there the whole season, but I've had plenty of four pluses this season

    Lesson Learnt. Rod Posting

Might be worth looking at Shipley for rods, most on it are people with vans/ cars trying to make a few quid and would probably take much better care of them.

Daiwa tournament pro 13/15 match rod

Haven't Browning stopped doing the Sphere float rods?

    Wind

Yes, eerily still down here in the South West at the moment.

    lighter float rod

Why is it manufacturers have a habit of discontinuing good rods?

    Trotting for barbel

Again, I'm a long way from being any expert, but I have had some success trotting on my limited trips to the Wye. This is what I've found. Finding the fish is important, waders will help no end with this, they can be tucked up in a very small area( low conditions can certainly be your friend)...

    I haven't seen it, but I'll take a wild guess😁....Collingham.

    Split shot advice

Yes, I thought the first one was odd as well. A quick look at my Anchor Shot Wheel confirms this, if it's correct!

    Split shot advice

They look great, Graham. I currently use the line through ones with a couple of stops but these are obviously a hassle to change. Are those ones not a bit prone to falling off?

Keeping 3 piece rods set up

In response to the OP, yes. I take the tip section off first, place along mid section with tip facing down, then seperate mid from butt. Bit of fiddling to get all lined up nicely then a bit of gardeners soft tie to hold together. Much prefer 2 piece, really, but a job to get 15ft float rod in...

    Luncheon meat.

Not sure I'd be that keen on potentially introducing yet more plastic into the river.
