Daiwa castizm br 25a or 25qd

No love for Okumas? 😛 Just sold a pair of Shimano Medium Baitrunner LC 5500 CI4 reels which are a fantastic reel for Barbel fishing. I had bought a pair of Okuma Aventa Baitfeeders last year in 6000 size and for only £80 each. That made the Shimanos redundant. And for only a third of the...

Daiwa castizm br 25a or 25qd

If you like the TDR then this could be the reel for you. TD Feeder QD https://fishdeal.co.uk/t/fishing-reels/daiwa-td-feeder-4012-qd It's a TDR in (less blingy) wolfs clothing with a super rugged aluminium body. Only comes in 4012 though so not really a float reel, but looks superb for...

    Hook length Braid sinking

Avid Carp Captive coated braid. Super soft and supple, absolutely zero memory.

    Losing your mojo?

Losing my Derwent mojo a bit but i know it's a hard river in June (early season) and the usual banker swims are turning up nothing. I'm going to change it up a bit, the Barbel aren't hiding near the usual banker swims to maybe they're somewhere else, not yet returned from wherever they bugger...

    Hook choice???

I use ESP Cryogen curve shanks in a size 10 when Barbel fishing. Amazing hook holds. Use Kamasan animals when fishing for smaller stuff using maggot or caster etc but they've pulled out a couple times when they've hooked Barbel.

Darent Valley Specialist Extending Landing Net Handle

Not yet but its in a sorry state. I tried to repair the thread with some ptfe tape and ended up spraying that repositionable glue down the bottom section so the mechanism could get some purchase. The bottom tube would need cleaning out, I think a rag soaked in meths or some other type of...

Darent Valley Specialist Extending Landing Net Handle

I had been using a Drennan twist lock specialist 3 metre handle until the mechanism thread stripped. Tried to get a replacement since October last year so decided to accept my losses, bin it and get another net handle. Doesn't seem to be a lot of choice for specialist handles that aren't the...

    Carbon drag washers

Mine came with felt but are smooth anyway compared to the felt washers in really cheap reels. Wouldn't hurt to upgrade them though.

Fishing the Macmillan match on Saturday? :)

    Hooklength choice??

I tend to use Fluoro if low and clear, Drennan Supplex usually. Night fishing i'll go with a coated braid of which my choice is Avid Carp Captive Coated Hooklink, it's the most supple by far that i've found and strips really easily. That being said i've caught on the coated braid when it's...

    Bite alarms

I fish with alarms but the sound turned down to lowest. And I'm usually the only soul within a mile or so when fishing so won't be bothering anyone.

    Hacking

Just bought one of the aforementioned Fiskar XA3's from Amazon (bit steep but i like to know when stuff is coming) I have some serious Nettle and Balsam clearing i want to do on the lower Derwent.

This nice weather…maybe change of my plan?

Not had any sustained crazy warmth here so water should be OK (Until Friday atleast) I'm fishing within 50 meters of a double weir so plenty of oxygen too.

    Barbel Groundbaits

I've pretty much abandoned the feeder approach, too many fish spook off the mainline. Last year i started to solely fish a straight lead with a 4ft minimum hooklength with the pva mesh bag on the hook of 3 cut in half boilies and a pinch of pellets and my catch rate improved enormously. If...

Trying new line - Gardner Mirage Platinum

Fluorocarbon, £24 for 200m. 15lb 0.35 I was checking out my reels that i hadn't used since last october and thought i'd peel off some line and check it. Was using Daiwa Tournament ST of 0.30 - 12lb on my most used reels and was definitely feeling a bit rough, like it's been abraded by rocks...

    Okuma pulzar baitfeeder reels

I used the Aventa 6000's last season and caught quite a few Barbel. I also own a pair of these: https://www.total-fishing-tackle.com/shimano-medium-baitrunner-ci4-xt-b-lc And I prefer the Okumas. Fantastic Barbel reel 👍 Nothing wrong with the shimmies, but at a 5th of the price the Okuma...

    Okuma pulzar baitfeeder reels

Even the gear ratios are different and quite a difference in weight. https://www.okumafishing.com/en/product/Pulzar-baitfeeder-reel.html If it's to stick on a pair of Barbel rods (1.75 - 2.75) the 6000 is what i would pick.

    How far ?

    Memberships.

Only 2 for me. Pride of Derby renewed which i've held for about 3 seasons now. And just joined Newark Pisc as an associate member after becoming endeared with the East Stoke section after a match last year and a friend is also a member. Plus i can take people along on a guest ticket :D Other...
