At least you didn't pay £250 for a pair like i did back in the day 😆 I bought a pair of 2.75tc for floodwater fishing, saw the rings in person and sold them. Now i'll just use my pike rods for floodwater on the rare occasion i might go in such conditions.

Powermesh is a lovely blank but the minima rings are horrendous.

Not personally, did consider buying the powedered egg albumen you can get from boilie ingredient sellers but fresh eggs work out cheaper, and there's goodness (vits + minerals) in the yolks that i can't really think of a reason why i'd exclude them...

A Pike deadbait rod >3lb tc is a good choice too, usually a nice through action so can chuck a substantial amount of weight. Double up as a flood rod too in a pinch if you need 10oz to hold bottom 😆

I'd alternate the baits between upstream and downstream rods to see if there's any difference. Depends where on the middle, somewhere like BDAAS stretch at Fiskerton fishes well even in the daytime, 2 or 3 fish achievable particularly in September onwards when they seem to be on the munch.

I trialled mine on the lower Derwent when creating boilies. Low stocked but did know there were fish in there over a few stretches, and knew most people who did an overnighter either blanked or banked one fish typically. I fished it for ages with off the shelf "shelf life" and freezer boilies...

I've caught some decent fish but usually fish on my own so no one to hold the camera. Heres various lower Derwent Barbel. And a clonking fin and scale perfect 6lb Chub. Just a shame I don't have a cameraman to do my captures justice.

There's nothing better than loading your Barbel gear in to a completely inappropriate vehicle 🙂

Fantastic reels. I've used the 6000's on my 2lb Barbel rods for a few seasons now and are happy with big fish on small rivers like the Derwent or mighty rivers like the Trent 💪 If these were £100 per reel I'd still buy them and think they were a bargain.
