Should have fished the Itchen since I've lived within 5 minutes of it's banks for the last six years. One day.
To throw something else into the mix, do you think some individual barbel are harder to catch than others. I know some individual carp have an innate ability from birth at not visiting the bank as much as others.
Half of the rigs carp anglers use are to solve the problem that they created in the first place ie mass baiting with particle sized baits that are used all of the time especially with the advent of the spomb again used all of the time. It is interesting to see the increase in catches from two...
Avon days and stour ways is ace, a very well written book with many good stories told. The nature of barbel is a great insight into the life of barbel, again well written. Would recommend both highly.
Cat amongst the pigeons time. I never felt or have been lead to believe that low diameter lines for the poundage stated make reliable robust lines. I nearly always go by the diameters. Not pointing fingers but more a point for discussion.
Hydrotuff and gr60 for life dependency. I would also add XT in 12lb after a horrendous battle with a carp and an unknown snag in the spring but haven't used it long enough to recommend whole heartedly.
Still waiting replies from two emails to Royston Swith, my local MP who rejected the ammendment. I'm not holding my breath on a response to either, especially on a reason for his vote. They work for us... Hmmm.
I think they were hoping this would pass under the radar yet they are being hung up publicly for everyone to see. Not a good look. Even my local WhatsApp group are shaming our MP Royston Smith for voting to reject the ammendment. Long may it continue. Save the planet whilst screwing immediate...
Totally agree. Bought the large one as I needed a longer reach. Having used it it for a while, I cannot see why anyone would consider the compact version other than for storage. The large one is fairly compact in its retracted state.
Definitely worth the perseverance as I think Autumn /winter is the best time of the year on the rivers and generally a nice place to be. It's finding the buggers that is hard. Roving and bouncing a bait about the swim will find them quicker. It can be a small area within a swim and all of a...
Sometimes cleaning the line with a wet cloth before knotting to remove dirt stops these breakages. Abrasive particles collected from previous sessions can serverly affect knot strength.
To the original poster. I've had knots go just above the eye of the hook years ago. Came to find out that it...
And that's why I would keep an open mind. If I was losing barbel or hooking on the extremities of the mouth then I would think there was a problem but they very rarely fall off (can count on one hand) and are well hooked for the most part. I just don't think barbel have a mouth very well...
Just something else to throw into the mix. There is a theory amongst carp anglers that feeding small mass particle baits makes hooking fish harder due to minimal movement from fish rooted to a spot, hoovering up small sections of lake bed as opposed to boilie fishing with larger food items that...
