    Milk Protein Base Mixes

It’s just a basic four milks mix Rich, which my old mate Jon Callan put me on many years ago. Used it on a local river last season in pursuit of a pb chub and managed to smash it with a 7lb 2oz fish. If you keep the powders dry (preferably vacuum packed), it keeps pretty well.

    Close season Bodging.

Fantastic work David, I’d definitely be interested in one if you were selling them.

    Milk Protein Base Mixes

Hi Nu Val or make your own. I mix acid casein 25%, lactalbumin 25%, calcium casseinate 25%, whey protein 25%. If I want it to be a more open texture I add some CLO to the mix which reduces the cost as well. I know it’s usual to add confectionery flavours to milk protein mixes but these days I...

End of an era, for me

I’ve had to change my fishing habits due to a back injury but I’m just as happy fishing for other species as I was when I was barbel obsessed. Hope you continue to find solace and happiness on the bank Paul. I too will always have very fond memories of the Kennet, Loddon and St Pats when they...

    BBBB -Big baits, big barbel?

I don’t use feeders and don’t cast very often and tend to use either very large or very small baits. Catching shoal fish regularly can disturb the big girls.

    Making Your Own Bait?

I always make some of my own milk protein baits because bait companies produce baits to be competitive price wise, which means milk proteins are only used very sparingly - compared to mine.

    brolly recomendation for roving

Korum may have upgraded this brolly, in which case my criticism may not be valid. Mine is about 5 years old.

    brolly recomendation for roving

Admittedly I don’t use storm poles, but I can say that all my other brollies have been better than the Korum one and several other users have made the same criticism of the Korum one as I have in past threads. The ribs are not up to the job in very strong winds. I don’t have issues with my...

Wanted-Cadence 15ft #3 float rod could swap for diawa connoisseur

The connoisseur is spot on for barbel, I sold mine to buy something lighter due to shoulder problems, but it was a good rod. I’d be very surprised if the cadence rods are better.

    brolly recomendation for roving

I replaced my Korum fibre brolly with a Nufish one because it was utterly useless in a strong wind, even with pegs and cord. It folded up like a tulip. Nufish is a bit heavier but much better quality. I don’t take a brolly when roving however, just waterproofs.

Horse nipples, ah yes, welcome back John.

    lighter float rod

Maver Signature Pro Classic is excellent, I use my 15ft version for everything from roach to barbel. Very light and progressive power down the blank.

    Derby railway angling club

Anyone know what Dove Valleys stretches of the Dove are like with a view to trotting for grayling and chub ? Are the banks inaccessible or overgrown ? Thanks.

    John Bailey vs. John Wilson

Challenged him to catch a barbel not an otter btw.

    John Bailey vs. John Wilson

Seem to recall Bailey tried to dismiss the impact of otters on the Wensum in the early days. Didn’t someone challenge him to actually catch one about 5 years ago ? I think his position has changed to some degree now.

    Trotting for barbel

I use a 15ft Maver Signature Pro with a centrepin for trotting, using a minimum of 0.22mm line straight through, sometimes 0.26mm if it’s quick water. This season I left the centrepin at home and used my 2500 fixed spool reel with a Tricast 14ft xs rod using a Dave Harrell loaded speci waggler...

Recommendations sought: Float Rod for trotting for Roach & Chub

I too have the maver signature pro classic in 15ft and the Tricast xs in 14ft, both of which I picked up at discount prices. I now rarely use my Normark Avenger 2000 13ft, such is the quality of these rods. The maver rod is incredibly light and versatile, I use mine for trotting for roach, chub...

    Am i missing something ...

He’s a fantastic angler, riveting storyteller and very humble with it. I’m not a carp angler but I’ve watched all his YouTube stuff more than once. I don’t think he’s ever likely to be appearing in celebrity bake off 😂

Best 12ft low water/small barbel rod?

Set your clutch correctly and you can stop a train with a 1.5lb rod, just let the rod do the work and admire the curve, it’s a thing of beauty.
