I know barbel anglers love these conditions. I don't and tend to avoid due to the constant clearing of line false bites etc. The Trent was fishing well over the last few weeks before the deluge over the last 48 hours. Water temperature was fairly constant with little change at 10 deg C.
Stephen. As above. Just crush or halve the boilies and mix in with water softened pellet and pack into an open-ended feeder. Use the actual river water. Should do the job nicely. Varying the size and pellet 'flavour' also helps the attractiveness of the mix.👍
Martin is a superb all-round angler. Although I find his 'commentary' during his filming mildly annoying. Is it just me? I have always respected Drennan as a great supporter of specialist angling. I buy their products whenever I can because of their support. Certainly not because of a sponsored...
I know it's a personnel preference for most anglers, but I just don't see why, given the option, barbel, carp, tench and pike anglers don't opt for a bait-runner facility every time. Having been brought up without the BR option, I have experienced how much more convenient BR's are, in comparison...
You're right Steven. I've been a river angler for about 45 years and these things can happen very quickly.
First one was when I slipped from a high bank on a frozen day into the River Welland whilst landing a chub. That was very cold. Over two fields to get back to the car.
Into the river...
Kevin.
You could do:
1. Change your bait. Even changing the size of a successful bait can make a complete + difference.
2. Fish the much quieter stretches. Peace and quiet (less bank disturbance and fishing pressure) and there could be a few surprises waiting. Do the opposite of what the...
It will be interesting to see. I can never understand why a developer, subject to planning permission approval, is not required to fit solar panels and a grey water use reclamation facility to each house. If it means charging more per unit / reducing profit so be it. Same with other essential...
Well summed up. My thoughts precisely. Also, no big deal catching fish from there. It has to be the most notorious and easiest swim on the planet.
I have a lot more respect for catches from the remote areas of the tidal.
The Town's Dock museum in Hull features many past photos of the quayside landing fish three boats deep. The herring boats were from all down the east coast. Mainly Hull, Grimsby, Dundee and other smaller ports and also from the Netherlands and Germany.
The weather was always a problem when chartering a boat from the Atlantic ports. I used to fish with a couple of friends for the porbeagles from north Cornwall twenty plus years ago. You'd often only get out 2 days in 5.
Tuna probably down there as well now.
There used to be a very lucrative Tuna sports fishing industry centred on Scarborough in the 1910 to 1930 era. The modern day multiplier was developed by Hardy's of Alnwick to cope with these huge fish. The British record was/is just short of 900 lb. The anglers fishing from basically big...
The 'Wild Fowler's' were a common sighting on our local river in the 70's. An impressive sight at the time up river in the back-and-beyond.
I was winter piking on the Yorkshire Derwent in the 90's and chatting to a fellow angler. We both noticed a fully grown Mallard duck moving very slowly...
