I met a well known barbel angler a few years back and initially I didn't recognise he was the same chap on the front cover of a book I have.

A brilliant river rod. I had one when they first came out. Lovely powerful progressive action and I had a fair few barbel on it up to low double figures.

I have 2 x 11foot 1.75lb rods that are completely different.
An 11 foot 1.75 korum barbel which has a powerful progressive action
An 11 foot Peregrine GTI which bends and bends right through!

I've just bought a cadence 16 foot #2 off here but not had chance to use it yet.
I'm thinking 0.17 Reflo to 0.15 should be a good match for the rod on my centerpin?
I also bought a Diawa spectron 17/20 rod with a higher rating of up to 8lb line.
The diameters are similar but the cadence...
I know of an angler who uses bright orange line straight through for barbel and catches plenty of fish...Some good ones too!
I'm convinced what spooks them more is swimming into line they 'can't' see.
