I guess it all comes down to where you fish. As I only fish the Severn my hooklinks get battered up way more frequently than my hooks. Also it depends on what bait you’re using. Fishing a chunk of meat with the hook buried in it means a lot less hook damage than a hair rigged bait.
Definitely. One of the reasons I don’t use 2 rods all that often is that in my experience most swims have 1 sweet spot so once you’ve found it you’re better off concentrating on that.
They are easy to catch on stretches that contain large amounts of barbel but it still needs you to put the bait in the right place. I know plenty of pegs on the Severn where you can bag up but only if you cast to a certain part of the swim. Cast anywhere else and you might get lucky and catch...
lol I pretty much clicked on the thread ready to type exactly this. The only things I’ve ever sold have been old reels and low end alarms and stuff on car boots. I’ve given stuff away to mates starting out fishing but nothing I’ve ever missed not having. Problem with not selling stuff is you end...
Caught one on a bigger lure once. Was reeling in and all of a sudden I was in. Was playing the fish for a bit and got it under the rod tip then the lure came out the water but couldn’t see a fish. One of the trebles had somehow gone through a lead clip where the line runs through and there was...
Love mine. Gotta remember to keep the batteries charged though as they don’t last that long. Makes spotting little knocks easier when you get to that stage of the night where your eyes start playing tricks on you and you think the rod tips moving when it’s not. Plus you don’t need to constantly...
I had a mate who started off carp fishing with cheap gear. I got him into fishing for barbel and he used to use his carp rod as that was all he had. He was the luckiest fisherman alive though so normally outfished everyone else no matter what he was fishing for even though he didn’t really know...
If that’s his elbow surely his arm would be coming up that sort of angle. Looks to me like he’s holding a smaller fish like a perch or something and this barbel has been photoshopped over the top
I brought one of these to stick in my bag to maybe try with some self takes in the dark. It’s extremely bright for its size. It’s got a little magnet on the back so should be able to stick it to your chair leg or bank stick or something
Well the second battery lasted about as long as the first. I’m on the one I charged last week now so I’ll see how long that lasts. I’m just gonna keep one charged in my bag ready to swap over when needed. One thing Iv noticed is when they start dying they no longer glow green but if you get a...
Another little update. Out again with the other battery in but decided to use the other light as well although since Iv been thinking about it that could squiff the results of the battery life experiment but too late now. One thing I have noticed is that this light is no where near as sensitive...
I will get an idea cause if the other one lasts 160 hours then I’ll know the first was dodgy. If it lasts the same time then I know they’ll need charging more often. I’m not gonna mess about charging them for 8 hours every week if they don’t need it
I charged them both when I brought them but have only used the one which died on me this weekend. Iv recharged that one but think I’ll try using the other one first to see how long that lasts to get an idea of whether or not that’s how long they actually last rather than the stated 160 hours or...
To be fair they didnt flash very often but each time they flashed the tip never moved. It’s only as I saw the silhouette of a moth next to it when it happened that I’m assuming it was the moths setting it off.
