I was out fishing in thundery weather yesterday ,I find witnessing / being in a storm very exciting, however I was praying I didn't get a bite when the lightning was at its height as I didn't want to have a rod in hand when the storm was so close . Needless to say I got a ripping take as the...
Yes , I saw that Graham . The most shocking revelation to me was how the EA ,'' trust'' the water companies [ the sewage dischargers ] to take the water samples from sewage outflows . To me that gives them ,the polluters a golden opportunity to massage or falsify the readings . This ridiculous...
This thread got me thinking about my first Barbel so I got my old fishing diaries out which I have kept from 1968 to date . Entry for 1969 Yorkshire Ouse , Newton on ouse . Caught 6 bleak , 2 tommy Ruffe , 12 gudgeon and a 5oz Barbel ,it barely registered on my little samson scales and initially...
Didnt even own a camera when I caught my first Barbel ,but heres a grainy smudge of my Daughter Morgans first Barbel , I think she was 8 at the time , now 26 she still occasionally wets a line , happy days ...
People need to be careful when posting photos of fish captures , the swim is clearly identifiable , and that little kid in the background will tell all his pals . Circus will descend soon , you just wait
No need to apologise Adrian .For me it was the heat that has been putting me off going Barbel fishing . I have had a few goes on the Yorkshire Ouse in the evenings on cooler days and have managed to catch some Barbel . One upside of the very low water levels is that you can see snags and...
Yes David , all the rivers in my neck of the woods are in a poor way , the River Ouse is hardly moving .We had a thunderstorm last evening but it barely dampened the ground ,worrying times ...
Wasn't actually up there fishing Adrian , was visiting a nearby stone circle [ Yockenthwaite ring cairn] . In the nearby pub at Hubberholme were several fine cased trout that had been caught in the river over the years. It is hard to imagine how any fish could survive in the river in it's...
I took the 3rd picture whilst stood in the river bed , it was upsetting to see the river in such a parlous state ,goodness only knows where the fish are hiding ,if indeed there are any that have survived
I bet , a beautiful fish and a great photograph too .My biggest North Yorkshire tench is 6lb 10oz .I have recently found a little pond that has produced an 8lb er ,to date 5lb 12oz is my biggest from the water ,it's hard going but I will persist . Again well done , that is a fish of a lifetime...
I have a whole Bamboo grove of cane rods , most awaiting refurbishment . Users , ancient and modern , maybe 20, plus a shelf full of Mitchells and ABU Cardinal reels .
I would grab my 10ft 2 piece split cane Avon rod , built on a JB Walker blank , I acquired it in a very sorry state and restored it to my own specification , landed many a Barbel and Tench with it . Modern rods ? I would save my Fox 1.75 TC 12FT XS Barbel Duo ,lovely blank .
Good magazine , but I was never sure about the title , anything with Cult in the title sounds vaguely sinister , but clearly this has not held it back so keep up the good work Martin
