An 8.06 lber from last Friday. The largest of a 5 fish catch. The water temp was still at 11 degC. In France currently (not fishing related) so the next tenching session will probably be this Monday.
I like the Guru hooks they're my go to hooks in the MGWM pattern for tench and barbel.
This tench was caught on Friday by a newly made acquaintance. Any idea what the red spots are?
Monday 24th
Water temps 11-12 degC. 10 tench up to 8.06 and 8.04 lb.
Wednesday 26th water temp first thing was still 11 Deg C.
A real red letter day at 19 tench up 7.01 lb. I haven't totted up yet but will be close to a 100 lb bag. Finished at 6 pm.
Country seems to be one of contrasts at the...
Reels are the tackle items that I've purchased frequently second hand. You generally can't go wrong with the older Shimano 5010 and 6010's and SeaSpins from the 90's. They tend to be robust and I've only had the one that needed a service not long after purchase. Richard is right. Don't take them...
I started after the rivers shut in late March. Two blanks with the air and water temperatures 9-10 Deg C. Then away with work for over 3 weeks.
Back last week and the third session (with higher temps) resulted in 5 tench. Biggest three were 8.08, 7.07 and a male of 5.13lb. A very pleasing...

I use a 'cooking thermometer' with probe. The type you stick in meat to check the internal temperature of what's cooking. Length of metallic cord is about 2 feet. It does me for rivers and is a general guide to air and water temperature. Not that it matters as I'm already there👍. To...
Upstreaming, I use simple running rigs, fairly heavy with a bow in the line. If fishing with two rods (just the one at times) I tend to find the bites come to the one rod. At a guess 66:33 ratio downstream : upstream rod.
Julian you'll probably find that you may struggle with this. Some rod builders will not do refurbs / rebuilds on rods that weren't built by them in the first place. Dave Lumb (DL specialist tackle) that many use on here being one example. Seems as though there must be plenty of work about. On...
