I was told this by one of the match guys on the Severn…if fishing the feeder and bites dry up cast downstream with just single baits for a while to pick of the fish that have fallen back, then start fishing a different line a bit more upstream, it works!
Only advantage I can see if using on rivers would be to get a bait down quickly under weed without snagging up…but would be more inclined to use a method feeder if I wanted to do that. Solid bags are effective on stillwaters and easy to make up if you use the purpose made fillers…..give it a go...
I find all these type of topics of the unexplained/mysterious absolutely fascinating …we’re not even really sure what’s out their in our own local countryside let alone places like the wilderness in America, the universe and depths of the sea! Topics like this, Bigfoot, aliens etc m definitely...
2 books I still want to read are ‘somewhere down the crazy river’ and Tony miles ‘my way with chub’….but not at those prices. I keep searching the charity shops in hope!!!
I’m not a serious carper but recently read Adrift by Gareth Fareham and found it very inspirational
All of Terry Hearns books
both books by Terry Lampard
‘Time for tench’ Chris Turnbull

IMO it’s a bit more like the quote in Jurassic park ‘you can’t alter a million years worth of evolution’ ….fish will just associate the baits food signal (smell/scent etc) with eating something they instinctively know is nutritious for their needs and seek it out if they pick up a scent trail...
