    tough start

Only 3 barbel trips for me this season so far: Ouse - blanked (standard) Tent - 4 all single figures, smallest barbel I’ve ever caught on the Trent Severn - 5 all between 6 and 8Ib, about average for the stretch TBH I’m not much of a summer barbel angler much preferring Autumn

Bit of fun... What's everyone's preferred boilie of choice

Mostly make my own using JB ingredients…but occasionally use CCMoore pacific tuna or Dynamite Source. The original Mainline Grange was a very effective boilie for me many yrs ago (20???)

(Light hearted banter) I seriously need to thin out my rods!

Very disappointing, you need 1 reel for every rod surely? Must try harder.

That a boy!!!….in the space of 10 posts going from too many rods to convincing yourself to buy more as an investment 😂….i like your thinking

(Light hearted banter) I seriously need to thin out my rods!

I don’t think I have that many but have far more than I need, so e I might only use once a year…..I’m even worse with reels, although I found those easier to part with. Some rods I have multiples of, like the Insight 1.75Ib RB, think I have 6….only because I have them as a saved search on eBay...

Shimano Stradic Specialist Rod, 12ft, 1.25lb tc

Good luck with the search, bloody annoying when you break something you can’t easily replace. Not sure what current rods would be comparable other than the drennan specialists but keep an eye on eBay for shimano Technium specialists, I believe these superseded the Stradics

    Another pb

Lovely stuff, good sized paddle on it! Bet that caused a few moments

    Catching at any cost

That type of fishing certainly isn’t for me, I would lose all sense of achievement. However, he would take a look at what I’m doing and probably say no way should I waste time fishing the Ouse life’s too short etc etc. I sometimes think that myself when on a long run of blanks, but when it all...

    Small river barbel rod

Agree….I use GTIs on the Ouse and they are superb, great stopping power and lovely to play fish in. But chucking out anything more than a couple of ozs you lose all finesse and accuracy and probably risk an expensive accident

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

I’m sure I’ve told the story on here before but I’ll relive the pain again anyway. A few years ago I was lure fishing the Ouzel for perch and chub but was being plagued by small jack pike….after a couple of hours of this patience was wearing thin and I hooked into another fish. Thinking it was...

    Air dried boilies

Why risk it🤷‍♂️ when your sitting there blanking you don’t know if it’s conditions, location, bait, tackle ….you need to remove as many variables as possible to maximise your chances

Abu 507 mkll drag not very lose

As Tony said, backwind. Clutches on the Abu CF reels are very snatchy…great reels for floatfishing for silvers and will handle the odd rogue chub etc but I personally wouldn’t trust them for targeting big fish

    Touch ledgering

I agree with comments on a moving bait and keep mobile…baiting and fishing many swims if possible. Alternatively hemp and maggot/caster feeder in a likely spot will keep you active with the smaller fish using a quiver tip, will build the swim up and if any bigger fish about they will eventually...

    Making your own bait.

Good luck with it👍 Just a warning to others though…..don’t do an internet search for grange road hookers when on a work computer

    Mainline for trotting

I’ve only been using Korum glide ( 6 and 8Ib) for a few months but found it excellent so far, mends nicely when trotting, nice and supple and just the right amount of stretch imo.
