I seem to recall that there was a strongly held difference of opinion in a discussion within this forum. Perhaps that is the reason they have left? IIRC, both seemed to be aggrieved at some of the comments made….

Each to their own, Paul. I picked up an MB Drennan barbel rod in a closing down sale a few years back and absolutely hated it. Stiff as a poker. Much prefer a more through actioned rod as I generally don’t have to cast to the horizon or use weights over 2 - 3oz on my local rivers.

From a practicality point of view, if the 11’ rod will do the job why bother with a longer rod which may not get you into all the swims you want to cover?🙂

Or perhaps moving it around from one part of the country to another….🙁 They seem to get far too much in the north and Scotland while we, in the south and east suffer regular drought conditions. Perhaps that’s Scotland‘s plan for independence, sell their excess water to us…..😜

Some potentially depressing reading in this Guardian article. Hopefully the forecasters have got it wrong but it could be another difficult summer if they haven’t…...
Just for the record, a chub weighing 8.04 was reported from Throop on the Dorset Stour a couple of weeks ago. Details, including a photo, can be found on the public Throop FB page.

As I see it, the main problem is that the sanctions applied by the regulators are primarily fines on the companies. This may have some short term impact on profits but in the end it is us who end up paying the fines through increased charges. The only way to shake these businesses up and drive...
Popped in to my local store and checked out the rucksack. Seems of reasonable quality although not sure who would want to attach a rod on either side of the front with the velcro straps provided for that purpose, but I’m sure they can be put to other uses (bank sticks perhaps?). Anyway, It has...
Some items available in store from 2 March, including a 23l backpack - priced at £14.99, the same as the smaller holdall - which may be of interest to roving anglers.

Although chub are not the same as tench, they do seem to be mimicking them to a certain extent in terms of their recent growth rate. Time was when a 4 lb chub was a good fish, a five was very big and a six was the fish of your dreams. Similarly, a five pound tench was a good fish, a six was...
Seem to be a fair number in the middle Hants Avon at the moment. Biggest I had this season was a 6.12 but quite a few sixes have come out along with some sevens and at least one eight. Whether it’s the chub benefitting from the decline in barbel numbers or just a couple of good year classes...
