Small/ medium river fishing - wait or rove

one day I hope to catch a fish which talks English. I plan to ask it (her/him or as appropriate in the fish world) so many questions. Until then that's the beauty, mystery or whatever, of what we do and love.

    Oiling a cork handle

I clean them in the bathroom sink when the RSM is out. Its the perfect size for handles leant across the top. Soap is usually all it takes with a nail brush but its amazing what comes out of used rods I have bought which look jaded. A brown sludge almost sometimes.

    Oiling a cork handle

Just checked Tim. No it was to be removed although I left it on for ages. Felt warm and soft. And easily cleanable ofcourse. When I was young we used to have cricket bats covered with what was known as pig skin. Don't know if it was but the Hardy material reminded me of that, but it was so very...

    Oiling a cork handle

I bought a new marksman bomb ultralite. The covering on the handle was a thick maleable opaque material. Not plastic in the accepted sense or as I have seen on other rods. I kept a piece as it was so unusual. Shrink wrapped but very thick, .maybe 2mm thick but soft and spongy almost. It was...

    Oiling a cork handle

I bought some brummer cork stopper a few years ago. That stopped up holes in used older rods I had then. A light sand and it was fine and mucky hands covered with ground bait soon seemed to blend the light colour.

    Oiling a cork handle

I had a holiday, probably 2019 ,part of it in Corsica. In chalet surrounded by cork trees. Absolutely fascinating to see the depth the cork can grow too even though regularly cut and removed. Seemed they cut it rectangularly about 150cm x say 80cm or so in panels. Some pealed layers seemed...

    Have you chosen wisely!

    Squeeze ready paste/ground bait

I like the sound of that. But what I seek is the magic ingredient. Something is added which makes the paste/ gb squeeze ready. The gum and wheat germ is a stiffener but requires a liquid to blend. How to do it without liquid is the question. I will try all these suggestions though over the...

    Treating yourself.

I must say Adrian than I can see your point. Some 30 years ago the RSM booked a red letter day for me at Birmingham railway museum for my 50th actually. It involved just 3 of us, plus the tutor, driving THE flying Scotsman for the afternoon. She was there awaiting a re fit for a cracked firebox...

    Treating yourself.

"Treat" is in my book another word for "indulge". "Sensible" doesn't come close

    Treating yourself.

Not sure you are right guys. I have always thought treating oneself was for that something special you don't need, but really want. For me, fitting neatly into the same situation as you tacklewise, it would be a mark tunley rod, the multi I think it is called. About 300 or so, enough but...

    SORTED! 11’ Torrix 1.75

I did see it on fb mp. I had looked at his supero 15". Very, nice rod you have bought yourself. If we can't treat ourselves now and again, what's the point.

    Greys prodigy pb barbel rod

Wet and dry I believe is best. I have made tips thicker by using nail varnish and then smoothing down , when I have needed to add a little width. Works fine.

    Greys prodigy pb barbel rod

Yes fishing spares are excellent both on line and on phone. Size at insert is the crux. I bought 2.2 there last year. If u get stuck my pal has a tackleshop and loads of spare tips just let me know diameter and I will have a search thro the bundle

    Hardy Coarse Fishing catalogue 2010

Hi all. Clearing out my "docs" I have come across this. I have been sending on request the earlier 2008 catalogue. I knew I also had a later one from Dave Coster's time with Hardy. If anyone wants a copy emailed, just pm me. It is the complete range of their products.
